Default Tires?

I need input on tires. What us the best? I currently have Michelin Pilot RF's but I am not sure how many actual miles are on them. The car has 13,700 miles total. They really don't show much wear.

I've got Michelin ZP A/S with about 32,000 miles on them and I expect to get another 5,000 or more miles before I have to replace them. I got 36,000 from the original tires.

You're going to get a lot of different opinions on this topic. I have a set of the Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs on my car - I like them a lot and they are very reasonably priced. They are not runflats though. If you want to stick with runflats, the Michelins are a very good choice.

I replaced the original Goodyear R/F's with Bridgestone Potenzas and bought a 12v compressor with a plugging kit. If the run flat option is important and I understand why it might be, I would go with the Michelin's like you have on your car. I believe they may be oem on later Corvettes so you might have the original tires.

Okie

Uh, according to that test, the Invos came in second-to-last - not very impressive.
I do think that if you are not afraid of having a 1 in 10,000 chance of getting a blowout (vs a slow leak that allows you to get to a tire shop), you can't go wrong with the Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs. I also like the Continental Contact Extremes.

After two sets of Michelin A/S ZPs I switched to Nitto NT-555's. I'm very much impressed with this Nitto tire over the previous run flats.

Default Hard to choose

I have had several brands and types of tires.

Goodyear F1 GS D3's-awesome tire in dry and wet, better in wet, had good wear, not quiet

Toyo T1R-quiet and wear is good, not as good in the wet as the Goodyears

BF Goodrich g-Force TA KDW 2-Great looking tread, noisy, good in the rain, harden fast

Now on a set of Continental Extreme Contact DW-great in the rain, bot bad in the dry, and quiet

Tires are like brake pads. There is no perfect tire, they are all compromises. Good luck.

As you can see from the responses you will first have to decide if you want to stay with run flats or go with non run flats. Generally speaking, run flats are noisier and do not handle as well as non run flats. When I changed to non run flats, the difference was amazing. The car was quieter, rode much more smoothly, and handled like a totally different car. Run flats, however, can give you a feeling of security, knowing that you won't have to pull over and stop in some godforsaken place if you puncture a tire.

Vete girl - Check the MFG date on the tire - If the car only has 13K mikes on it I would think these tires are okay. The OEM sets are Goodyear EMT's so these have been changed to the Michelin's.

Your tires are probably good - find somebody that you know that KNOWS about tires - NOT someone who is trying to SELL you tires to look at them to ensure they are okay. Just trying to save you some $$$$$!!!

Me too.
One thing to consider is that even if the car is very low miles and the treads on the tires still have a lot of life, the tires themselves may be dry rotted with age. Look on the sidewall of the tires and check for cracking or chafing.
If they are dry and cracked, you will need to replace them ASAP before you have a blowout. If they are smooth and soft, then you are good to go.

Not long ago MICHELIN came out with another option called the "Pilot Super Sport". It's a non run flat with very high ratings.

Compare the ratings to the the other recommended/popular offerings. I just installed a set but haven't driven it enough to make a good comparison to the oem GOODYEAR F1 Supercar tires that came on my car (Z06) originally.

I just checked the MICHELIN Pilot SS site, they don't come in oem zo6 sizes. What sizes did you put on your car?

Since the original poster asked in C5 General, my reply was directed towards C5 fitment for coupes/convertibles. You are correct they don't show Z06 sizes (yet?), but those may be coming.

I went with 18/19" sizes for my car because there is more of a variety of manufacturers to chose from.

Finally, someone has these! I bought a set for my 18/19 inch wheels and looking forward to see how they transform my car! Next weekend they go on!
