It's alive around here, but there aren't as many vettes around here as other places so we have a lot of true vette enthusiasts, not owners of a sportscar.
I live in the boonies and love the fact that we all (regardless of vehicle make) wave at each other. The sad thing is that in town, all C5s wave, but no C6s do. I guess my pop=up headlights scare them...
You can pretty much tell from a distance if you will get a wave. If the car is stock, expect a Corvette enthusiast.......and a wave.
If you see a corny bulge in the hood, weird lights, stripes and lowered. Forget it. These owners are into themselves, and you'll never get a wave. This includes tints, where you can't tell if the driver is waving or not.
I'm one of those corny lowered vette owners and i wave all the time. I didn't know i wasn't a vette enthusiast. My wife laughs at me when they don't wave back.

Yeah, in my hometown everyone waves no matter what they drive. But usually with one finger, (index finger). We call it the one finger wave.
i just assume those that don't wave don't see me because they aren't paying attention to driving, instead playing with their silly phones.......like too many drivers on the road today. Sad

It does seem that getting a wave from another Vette owner is not as prevalent as it used to be. I do my part, but just can't control what others do. It's too bad GM does not include a short write-up on the history of the wave in either the owners manual or in a separate brochure to be given to new owners. Heck, they could even put something on the DVDs for new owners.
Everybody waves in Wisconsin. C1 to C6. We all do it.
And yes the wife thinks I am nuts too.
I had the opportunity to drive from Houghton, Mi. to Rhinelander Airport. (we got skipped because of fog).. if I lived in that beautiful country I'd wave with both hands.

Might be a cool marketing scheme to work into a new C7 commerical
I can see it now, a lead up commercial were you only see the hand on the wheel of the C7 driver and hood view out the windshield - 2 lane road - and one model of each generation passes in the opposite direction of the C7 and both drivers wave
When riding my motorcycle I get about 90% waves back...in my vette about 75%....but I still wave....sometimes I go by a vette and just notice it at the last second a get a wave but I am too late to wave back which makes me feel a little sorry I didn't reciprocate
Generally around here there is a fairly high percentage, although it does sometimes seem to be streaky. I think at least part of the problem is as the generations get newer the driver is less visible as the windshield is more laid back putting the driver further back into the cockpit.Harder to see each other. I know in my shark I am much more visible to other drivers!

I LOVE that idea- send it in- mebbe GM will send you something like a credit for lots of gofast parts.
I only notice the non-wave return from C6 owners. Most C5 owners and owners of older generations wave back. Perhaps it's because people new to Corvettes don't recognize older models. I know, hard to believe!
A few weeks ago I enjoyed a top down drive in my vert along our beautiful 2-lane Gulf Drive through Long Boat Key. I was enjoying a nice 1/2 mile stretch with no cars and then noticed another C5 vert coming directly at me from around the bend as you can't miss the distinctive C5 DRLs. If there was ever a chance to test the condition of the Corvette waive, this was it. Funny thing is that although I waived to the driver, it was the passenger (man) who waived back. I don't think his wife or lady friend understood why I was waiving at them.

I don't think it's dead, but with all we do today in our cars, it certainly taken a back seat to cell phones, drinking coffee, and looking oneself in the mirror, etc. . . In a car with no back seat.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
