Okay everyone, just bought some Race Ramps to do oil changes. So my question is:
Once I have the front of the car on the ramps, how do I insure that as I am raising the back end with the floor jack, the car does not roll off the ramps? I am guessing that the E-brake engages the rear wheels as well as putting the car in gear.
Is it just a matter of chocking the back of the front wheels on the ramps?
Sorry guys, just trying to keep from killing myself, or worse yet damaging the car! LOL!
The e-brake does indeed lock both rear wheels, so once the rear of the car is airborne, the car will be free rolling with no resistance on the front wheels. Hence, why you need the wheel chocks on the front!
You should definitely use wheel chocks behind the front tires which are on the ramp platform when you are lifting the rear of the car since the e-brake is not effective with the rear tires off the ground. If you have the two-piece ramps it not a bad idea to leave the incline sections in place until after the rear of the car is raised and on wheel cribs or jack stands.
If you just purchased the ramps (after 01-Jan-2012) then you should be eligible for the wheel chock rebate offer. You can download the rebate form from our Specials page or directly from Race Ramps website.
