If I'm not mistaken the speedo is not mechanical in these cars..no cable..I could be wrong though
Are you sure the leak is coming form the drain plug? If so it probably just needs a new seal washer, or you can just pick up a whole new drain plug at the parts house for pretty cheap.
If no cable then is it a module that needs replaced?
Regarding the leak...no one can figure for sure where the leak is and I have replaced the plug. I was told to use teplon tape on the threads of the plug next time I change the oil... Guess I will try that..
The oil drain plug has an "O" ring seal on the sealing face. The replacement plug should also have an "O" ring seal.
The seal could be cut or the sealing face on the aluminum pan could have a scratch or other defect.
I do not believe that teflon tape will help here, and some of it could get into the engine.
If the "O" ring and the pan sealing surface are in good condition and it still seaps at the plug, a tiny amount of silicone sealant on the "O" ring might help.
On my engines that do not have an "O" ring seal on the oil drain plug, I have been using a very small amount of silicone sealant on the plug sealing surface, so far about 30 years of that practice without a drip or known adverse effect.
wait, are you thinking an oil leak is causing your speedometer to read funny?
the two are completely unrelated... unless it's leaking oil right under your rear tires causing you to lose traction all the time
