Default Warranty Direct

Has anyone had good/bad experiences with Warranty Direct Extended Warranty Policies?

I am looking at their Powershield Enhanced Plan which would give me 5 more years on my 2001 at less than $2000. The XtraCare+ Plan is about $10,000 (i.e. buy a spare C5)!!!

The previous owner of my car purchased a 5 year, 100,000 mile, $0 deductible warranty from Warranty Direct. When I bought the car, I transfered the warranty over to me. I had several warranty issues with the car over the next 5 years (rocking driver seat, EBCM, HVAC, fuel tank sensors, leaking diff, column lock). I took the car to the Chevy dealer each time, and never had a problem with Warranty Direct. The only time they pushed back was on the multiple trips to fix the fuel tank sending unit (I think it took 4 trips to the dealer to finally fix it). The service advisor explained the reasons for the multiple repairs and they accepted the explanation. I thought the Warranty Direct people were very helpful and wanted to make sure I was satisfied with the repairs and their service. I would definately buy another warranty from them again.

I had a Warranty Direct policy on my '00 - Only had one small claim but they paid it right away.

Sounds good, you must have had a higher-end Plan that what I am looking at with them as the Powershield Plus would not cover an EBCM or rocking seat. But I also am not going to spend $9,000+ for their top-tier Plan available for a 2001 at this point/

Most of those warranties are rip offs, IMO. They always look for loopholes. Not cover this or that.........

No doubt... they do not cover "everything" like my GMPP Extended Warranties, but on an 11+ year old car, not many options out there. At least certain items are specifically covered such as A/C Compressor, all the transmission and rear end, etc. Other things like the Torque Tube are not covered at all, but if one of several of the things they cover went wrong it could cost as much as the warranty to fix. At $300/year it is hard to say no.

I know that my GMPP Extended Warranty paid off big-time. They covered over $16,000 worth of parts and labor during my first 10 years of ownership (mostly after year 7) - including the cost of a new crate engine. Of course, Warranty Direct is no GMPP, but GMPP will no longer cover a car this old.

$16,000 worth of repairs? Sounds like GM sold you a lemon!
Why so many problems?

All of the transmission and rear end are not covered

This is a partial list of what they covered - for some reason some things are omitted - probably ran out of computer memory!

The biggest single expense was the new engine which was a result of the Starter Motor flange failing and breaking off a chunk of the block just before 40,000 miles. This now is starting to show up in several LS-1's on the Corvette Forums and the Camaro Forums as well.

WOW!
If I had that type of history on any car I would buy the warranty or sell the car

Really not much major until I hit about 30,000 miles around year 6 - years 6 and 7 were a disaster.

I just can't understand the long list of problems you read about on our cars. I (knock on wood) have been pretty lucky. And I shake my head in amazment every time I get in my 140,000 mile Ford Ranger that is a 2002 as my Vette is, and drive away thinking that it has never needed a single repair other than normal maintainence (brakes, shocks, plugs, wires, ) Hope I didn't jinx myself!

Some of the problems are technology related. If one thing is off a fraction at assembly, of the car or the part itself, it spells disaster for those cars or parts being built that day or during that particular run.

Even though they may catch the issue they don't recall or bring back those parts or the car. They have always had the attitude, let the dealer and the warranty take care of it.

I got this information from a previous manufacture sales rep. This practice is for all cars built not just vettes. foreign manufacturers don't do this as much and that's one reason why they seem to have better quality. It's a priority to them and is only now starting to be a priority of the american manufacturers.

Take the ebcm issue. They knew this was a problem and that's why they changed the design. But they couldn't care less about the prior ones since it wasn't a mandated federal safety system.

Whatta plan, they're hoping their warranty runs out before things like an ebcm fail
