Default Unbelievable!

My car was built 10yrs ago in December. It has been a daily driver now for the last 4yrs. Just turned 60k miles and all I have had to do is replace the right side daylight running light and brake job back in the fall. It has a 100% stock drive line which I am debating on doing mods or using the $ to buy another car. I am so impressed that I drive a 10yr old car that looks new (washed weekly rain or shine), does not have any problems, the stock bulbs are in every socket (except as noted), gets 20-22mpg in rush hour traffic and can still bring the wood when needed. I have never owned a car this long or had this good of experience. Anyone else?

Pretty cool, huh? I love my C5Z06. I don't feel the need to "upgrade" to the newer body style at all.

They are great rides. I drove my last one daily rain, sleet, snow, whatever. Never had any problems with it, but thought I needed a truck. I need a butt kicking for that one. Trucks gone and another Z is in its place.

Agreed 100%. I've had 3 C5Z's, one of them being supercharged, and I haven't had a SINGLE issue with any of them. That's over 90,000 daily-driven miles between the 3 of them. Besides oil changes, clutch fluid swaps, and brake jobs, I've never had any issues with any of them. Pretty amazing.

had several 4th gen fbody cars and finally made the move to a c5z and im very happy/impressed with it. bought it last year and its just an amazing car right out of the box. right before i bought my c5z i was looking at several base c6 models and i dunno, for some reason they just didnt feel right to me. the c6z06 yes its a bad animal but for the money i turned away from it. so it was between a base c6 or the c5z06 and to me the c5z was just more raw and gritty feeling, more race car feeling i cant explain more than that. i love this car and the only time ill upgrade/change it out is if a c6z06 drops into the mid 20k range which probably wont happen for years.

What he said. We could be bookends. Owned 4 Camaros, moved up to the C5Z. Looked at the C6, and it looked plain by comparison to the C5Z. The Z isnt passed by as often on the street as the C6. C6Z is wicked, but out of my price range. As far as problems limited to a rebuilt ABS sensor and replacing the oil sending unit, (dealer). I replaced myself the dash hazard switch, leaking coolant resovoir tank, water pump, serpentine belt. These are pretty minor repairs considering the type of car were talking about. Even for the DIYer, these models are easy to work on,fun in some cases. After ten years of ownership, im still grinning about owning it. These are great cars, havent looked back since.

You know you'er right, I'm a member of the same club only now mine had almost 80k on the clock. It's been a National Tour AutoX car, ran at Bonneville (150 class), traveled across the country 4 time, spent a month in Europe (2003), and is now our weapon of choice to travel long distance in (Spring Summer and Fall). Only parts changed: set of Euro headlights, Brake pads/rotors and JRZ shocks, it's stock, stock, stock... and still Rocks!!!

But I"m thinking its time for a new set of spark plugs.

Just Drive it.

Mark.

2001 c5Z 35k miles here owned since 17k mile and every mine that is on it from 17k is beat: road raced over 15 times and those were all double days ( my father races in a different class than me so the car ran 30 road racing days in reality ) many freeway runs, many turns of getting sideways, stop and go traffic. all with a mild cam, full exhaust. not 1 thing has went wrong. Although my fanbelt is getting a little noisy hehe. These cars mechanically wise are amazing. Great builds

Great post! What adds to that is if you ever track the car, and come up against a Porsche GT3, driving that Z to the limit, will allow you to reel that twice expensive German machine in. Enjoy...

This is great to know that I am not the only one to think this nor have gone this long with a stock car. So it is time to let you know I am finally putting headers on the car tomorrow and changing the spark plugs at the same time.

As for track time, that I do have at Pacific Raceways. Been going there since spring of '04. Your right about this car in stock form is hard for more expensive or even dedicated track cars to beat. Usually it takes a better driver which I have met from time to time but far from the norm. I am now focused on brakes as my next mod.

Its also amazing that you can bolt-on external mods only on any 01-04Z and it can change the whole character of these cars, even 25-30hp is a lot of performance considering the type of cars these are. Add a set of better shocks in addition to the external bolt-ons, and these cars can hang with most newer Vettes and the so-called exoticars.

Yep! We can all agree on something
These cars really do rock. Every time I think about trading for a newer one, I just can't bring myself to do it.

Headers in and tune done. What a difference! Dyno and re-tune tomorrow. Then on to brakes and suspension. Not trading up or for something different now.
