Charging System Fault
I started my car yesterday and I got a "Charging System Fault" error code in my DIC as soon as it started. The car has 711 miles, Nice GM quality!!!.
I cleared the code and it did not come back during the day. I am guessing that I will see it again soon. Good thing I did not send in my JD Power survey yet.
I've gotten that same code three times in the first 1000 miles I've had my 02. I haven't had it in the 700 miles since though so I'm hoping it was just a temporary thing.
Wouldn't be too concerned with this.......
I had it on my '01, it showed up 2 times, at different intrvals.......and never came on again.
A battery that is not 100% charged will cause this, ans a lot of other things......
Don't sweat it, unless it returns several times..... :yesnod:
You guys are all spoiled. :) Hell, I had half a dozen things I found wrong when I got home from the dealer, back in '82, and the car didn't tell me about them either. At least you can type the words "GM Quality" in the same sentence with a straight face.
rb, how long did your car SIT at the dealer before purchase?/.
Also, how long does it SIT between your driving it??.
I would make sure the battery is FULLY charged, and if it is, and it does it again........take it to the dealer.........
I had this happen several times with my 01. I spoke to the dealership and they claim the Delco batteries internally are broken about 10% of the time. I checked with some folks at GM and its more like %25 of the time. They have a real high rate of failure. Dealership offered to replace the Delco with another Delco. I declined.
I replaced the factory battery with an Optima (Red top) and have not seen the Charge Fault message since...

Maybe those batteries are Made in China, err... Mexico. :p:
