All my front, rear, and side lenses were professionally painted with tinted clear automotive paint. If you are looking for a permanent solution that will not fade, crack, etc., I recommend considering it.

Your assumption is almost correct. I did change the GM oil filter to a Wix filter.

My only issue with the tinting of lense covers is that it compromises safety. When you start compromising safety for style is where the line should be drawn.
Hey, if you want to bling the rims or chrome the crap out of the car, knock yourself out. When you make your car harder to see by tinting lenses or blacking out your brake lights, well that is just absurd. There is a reason lenses are DOT approved (clarity, visibility, lux, color, etc), not for you to degrade them.

I smoked mine with the spray on VHT, and they show up during the day. I wish I would have gotten the covers though, for I don't want to re-tint them in the near future lol. I'm just lazy. This is the best pic I have; I was adding bigger exhaust tips on my truck at the time lol.

My biggest fear with blackouts is that someone will rear end me and I will get blamed because I had my lights "blacked out" . This could apply to any accident for that matter. It could get very expensive both from an insurance and lawsuit standpoint. In most accidents the person at fault looks for a reason to say "Hey its not my fault". Just not worth the risk to look "bad ***". My 2 cents.

Another vote for doing it yourself with VHT, just go very light on hte # of coats. A little bit goes a long way. I did my rear side markers with it and it turned out great.

Any fears of collision due to darkened lenses can be put to rest with the addition of brighter light bulbs. All of my bulbs have been replaced with bright LED replacements. My lights are virtually the same brightness as the originals now. Anything else?

did mine myself.
yes, in GA it is illegal to tint any markers. front, side, read lights etc etc. but i was able to make them look dark, while still shelling out a decent amount of light from them. Night time you cant tell. lights are not much dimmer at night.
Day time you can def tell, but i keep my lights on so that it shoots enough like through to "look reflective" enough for most cops.
Yes ive have been pulled over 2 times by cops. 2 tickets, 75$ each.

Worth the small tickets tho! if your going to paint them yourself. stick by this rule...
5-6 THIN layers turns out/looks better and shows more light than 1-2 thick layers

Good luck!

Ya just might have to prove it. But hell you can hire a lighting engineer to testify in court on your behalf that the lights "are virtually the same brightness as the originals". No problem. Your are free to do what you want.

I didn't "black out" my tail lights, but I did give them a decent tint without compromising the light output. I used VHT Night Shade (2-2.5 coats), 3-4 coats of clear coat, west sanded with 2000 and a 3000 grit sand paper. The used Meguires ultimate compound, ultimate polish, then wax.

Came out perfect, with a perfect amount of tint, plus shine. Looks great in my opinion. I will try to get more pics, but here is the only one I have

No need. My actual light output may now be brighter than the original bulbs in the untinted housings. I have absolutely no interest in performing a comparison, either.

Your are free to do what you want.
Really? Awesome.

Mine are a similar grade of tint. They appear gloss black at night, but during the day you can easily see the red lens...
