Default R compound tires

I'm thinking of buying an extra set of wheels and a set of R compound tires. OEWheel has 17"x11" wheels that are pretty cheap:

http://www.oewheelsllc.com/Wheels_3/...Wheel-Silver_2

I assume 315/35R17's should fit on the rear with 17"x11" wheels. Would this size fit on the front too?

I want tires that would work for both autocross and drag racing.

What brand would you recommend? Kumho Ecsta V700, Kumho V700 Victoracer, Nitto NT-01?

How much does it cost to get your tires shaved? Do you need to shave the tires for drag racing or just autocross?

Bump

I have friends that use the toyo R888 and they use mickey thompson drag radials for the straight line ststuff. Also 11 should be to wide front and cutting it close rear. Hopefully someone else will chime in

I'll add the Toyo R888 to the list.

315/35R17's have a 25.7" OD. The antilock brake probably expect to see front tires about 4% smaller, 24.7". There is no way I can find anything close to 24.7" in the front unless they are really narrow.

How much will it mess up the antilock brakes to have almost the same OD in the front and back?

This guy fit 17x11's with 315/35R17's on the front of an F-Body. I'm surprised they fit.

17" thinspoke w/ a 275 MT DR and something else up front, not sure on that. Sticky and cheap. Probably lighter than a cheap replica also.

is it a good idea to run DR's in autocross? i've heard the sidewalls can't take it.

tires for Auto-cross and Drag racing are TWO DIFFERENT tires.

The ones above would be best for Auto-x and OK for drag racing.

DR side walls are not very strong for Auto-X cornering

Good luck

I run those same rims in the 9.5 size with a 315 hoozier for the strip (friends spare set). Deffinitly not a recommended size with a 9.5 but it works.

You can most deffinitly run that tire on the rim. Someone here uses those rims on his auto X car front and rear 315s all around. Its a Red Targa car.

Wow I didn't think 315 front and rear would work. They must stick out I assume?

why are 19"x12" wheels so much cheaper than 17"x12" and 18"x12"? it doesn't seem to make any sense.

Probably to tailor towards the C6z crowd?

I assume C6 Z06 wheels will fit on a C5?

front: 18x9.5
rear: 19x12

I'm looking at 335/30-19 Kumho Ecsta V710 for the rear and 275/35-18 Goodyear Eagle RS DOT for the front.

Would that be a pretty good set-up for autocross and a little drag racing?

I've found a few sources for these wheels.

Will they fit? Sure. However they are not the correct offset so they would stick out past the fenders by quite a bit. Unless you had flared fenders at least.

The only way you are going to get 12" wide wheels to fit the rear of a C5, is by tubbing it, putting flared fenders in the back, or just having it look totally awful...

The tires I'm looking at are slicks, I'd only run them for races. I'd be okay with the tires being outside the fenders just for races.

It sounds like with C6 wheels, they will fit without requiring wheels spacers?
