Default New Here :D

Just an intro,

Just to start off, Im from Clarion, PA and currently am driving a decently modified 2007 VW GTI with around 320hp and 280tq and love the car, but am absolutely sick of the VW "scene" and all of the kids in it thinking that everything has to be done a certain way or if its not, it may as well be considered satanic. Im honestly sick of it and hate to be associated with that crowd.

Im here because the c5 z06's highly interest me. There isnt a cult following and there are 2 different groups of owners. The high hp crowd, and the crowd that keeps them entirely stock to preserve them. Well, I want to get a black z06, twin turbo to a "decent" amount, tuck tire front and back and use if for my daily driver.

Any help or links would be greatly appreciated as I have never touched the muscle car world before other than my '63 Dart vert that I was restoring prior to college (college has drained me so it had to be put on hold until i graduate).

Here's a few pics of my car so you guys dont think im crazy.

(I ran a 13.5 at 100. A really good time for a stg 2 gti)

Thanks for looking, and NO, i wont be painting the wheels some crazy color!

Welcome

Seriously do some homework before buying one of these to see if it will still suit your needs.. Twin turbo and daily driver shouldnt be used in the same sentence for these cars unless you have very deep pockets.

It would be a low boost application(6-7psi), custom tune, 3" exhaust, hoping around 550.

I figure itd be around 12k for the setup/fueling/tranny work.

edit: conservative tune with minimal advanced timing.

" tuck tire front and back "

I wouldn't recommend it unless you mean lowering it --> Lowering it with coilovers sure, but if you are talking about running tiny sidewalls, and slam them into the fenders that is just going to kill the handling. I never understood that either, the v-dubs around here do that and it just looks like ****.

Twin Turbo will be fun, UPP has an affordable kit.

Good luck finding a car, and nice upgrade (once you get it)

Exactly

Maybe a slightly smaller in height tire so i can run a size larger width for more grip, but lowering it just to the point where just the top of the tread is hidden by the fender. Definitely not as low as my GTI is in the above pictures.

Look at S/C applications too.

Centri blower will be cheaper and easier to install than a twin-turbo kit. Lots of shops are offering them installed with fuel upgrades for $6-7k. With headers you will easily make 550whp on a conservative tune. Also some nice flash when you pop the hood.

PD blower will look cooler and get better bottom end but less peak power and make you install a giant domed hood. This is a plus or minus depending on your intentions.

Turbo setups are great but unless you do a forged motor, etc. IMHO not worth the trouble for gains over what you'd get with a good blower setup.

Welcome. I hope your not looking to have your wheels "poke" like i always see on the vw's. If you do you wont have any traction, even stock. Twin turbo can be a daily no problem but i would get used to the car first. These cars are very tail happy and will suprise you at first. Either way good luck

Aftermarket parts break at a much faster pace than stock parts... so if youre going to start racking up miles with everyday driving then be prepared to start replacing and upgrading on a regular basis...

So many guys think that it'll just take $10K to get my car up to xxx hp and thats it... they dont realize that things break.. and the more you use your car the faster they break.

Youre better off on buying yourself a $2000 beater for everyday driving .

Supercharger would be the way to go by far. Far more tested and reliable options. And as for your comment on the fact you want to avoid a cult following, be aware that there are VASTLY more people in Corvette clubs than VW clubs. The first car I ever bought was an '86 Jetta GLI a LONG time ago. It was the first and last FWD car I ever bought.

Not to mention that the Vette clubs attract a fine class of people!

I don't know that I would necessarily say that. Definitely an older demographic, but plenty of Corvette owners are complete elitists (and annoying). From what I;ve seen of VW clubs in my area, they are somewhat a hybrid of import tuner clubs and BMW/Porsche clubs.

I ****ing hate poke. It looks tacky and with the amount of camber involved absolutely RUINS straight line acceleration.

I know id be better off that way, but what fun would that be?
I do all of my own automotive work from changing the oil to rebuilding the engine. I know a load more than the typical 20yo does/should know at my age. Ive spent countless hours with my uncle who was an engineer for ford, and currently an engineer for several of their factory race teams. I was born into the automotive world.

I'm personally not fond of a s/c, and just like those fond of the s/c'ed v8, I'm fond of the TT v8 sound. Plus getting factory highway mpg cant be beat!

Hey now, this car has been great to me and beat a stock, base c5 by a length from 60-130 and a 4.6 gt by a bus from 60-130. Also, a new audi s5 from 80-160 by a fender... A damn FENDER!

Its ridiculous... If you want to know what i deal with forum wise, go to the mkv section on vwvortex.com or golfmkv.com/forums... those are my daily forums. Its pathetic.

An example of how the "typical" vw owner these days speaks... Kepp in mind it wasnt half this bad a year ago...

So, you posted those pics of the purple rims so we don't think you're crazy?? j/k

Seriously, good luck, sounds like you're gonna put together a pretty nasty Z06. I hear you about some of the forums out there. This place is pretty decent, but I got a good idea of what you're talking about on the FT86club.com. I want to pick up a BRZ as a daily in the spring and I've been browsing that forum and it's like bizzaro world in there! Big difference on the forums where the target demo is much younger. And I know some VW guys from work, a few too many shocker and pedobear stickers in that scene for my liking.

See my signature for what you can do with a daily driver. I have about 3" ground clearance and drive it daily, about 10k miles/year. 555rwhp all motor. Twin turbos may come at some point, but I'm happy with it for now and love the NA throttle response.

yeah - if you are tucking tire it is going to be a real bitch to DD a Z06.

Mine is lowered a fair amount on coil overs but i'm not tucking tire and as far as ground clearance, it is LOW

I really like the height. Those wheels look a bit small though.

I was thinking a set of factory 17/18 z06 with stickies, maybe widened(a very good friend of mine widens wheels as part of his job), for track day and 18/19's for my daily set with falken 912's. That way the wheel naturally sits a half an in higher into the fenderwell.
