Under Hood Air Flow Question
So, I get how the VaraRam is consider top choice for overall cold air because it's scooping up outside air from the most "outside" location - the front bumpers. I also understand how a Callaway or vortex rammer, or other brands that require cutting the shroud, are probably next best 'cold air' solution as they pull outside air from underneath where the radiator is.
I was looking online at the diagrams that show the routing for a VaraRam install. You have those two "horns" coming up over the radiator shroud, down toward the bumper and eventually mating up to the air inlet ports where the fog lights are. So, it stands to reason those fog light ports are pretty close to the air filter right?
So, my question is, how come you can't just have something like a Blackwing or K&N (meaning, a good free flowing, big filter system) and just put screens or open up completely the front fog light ports. wouldn't cold outside air at least be drawn into those front ports, through the screens, and into that area where the air filter is? I find it hard to believe that those systems would only be drawing in only warm under-hood air - it's not like the engine compartment is air tight, right?
I have never really looked to closely at that area (it's hard to see what it looks like with the big stock filter housing in place). Just curious.
thanks!
