I have now been to emissions here in AZ twice and have had a "Not Ready" code both times. As we were working on the car, we noted that we were getting error codes and replaced items (i.e. oxygen sensors, secondary air injection check valves, air stop valve...). Following the final repair, I drove the car about 60 miles and didn't get any error codes. I drove to emissions and got the second "Not Ready".
I now realize that there is a specific drive cycle that needs to be followed. My questions is does this have to occur in immediate succession or does it just all have to happen in one drive cycle? For example, I can do the cold start and idle two and one-half minutes, but can't immediately go 55 mph in my neighborhood.
Also, after following this procedure, is there a way to check to see whether the "Not Ready" code has been cleared from the car similar to the way error codes are read?
You'll never do the drive cycle exactly as it's documented. All you can do is drive normally for several days and at least let the tank get 1/2 down so the evap system will try to run. It's the I/M monitors getting you-you can't read these tests in the DIC, a cheapy Actron code reader can though.
