Moved to Arizona from Northern Washington last year. Just now having to get the z smoged. It did not make it. Took it to a local shop with a good reputation and found that the MAF had been screwed with by the previous owner! No Screen in it! It always ran well and I have put 50+ thousand miles on it this way? They tell me that I have to have a new MAF so that is what I am doing. I hope it still goes like stink.
they had it up in the air as they also had to reinstall the 1st to 4th because the harness I bought quit working after about 2 weeks and the check engine light is on! I noticed that the right side/passenger tire is bald while the other is fine? WTF?? I have vredesteins with 50,000+ miles on them! anyone have any ideas why one is bad and the others are okay?
You wouldn't think that the screen missing would make any difference at the test speeds, as for one tire wearing out faster. Check to see if you alignment is good, second and a long shoot. your LSD may not be working, driving only one wheel instead of both. Or you need to take it easy on the clover leaf off and on ramps .
Well I just got a call from the place working on it and they still cannot get it to unlean on both cylinder banks, even with the new MAF which I don't need! Now that I know it never had a screen to begin with. So they are taking it to a dealership to get the computer flashed to see if that is the problem? I guess it keeps trying to add fuel because of the lean issue. I am getting a bit pissed off mostly at myself for not taking it to a place that specializes in Vettes, and there must be some shops in Phoenix that do that. I can see this costing me $1000.00 + just in labor trying to find the problem.
Out!
I have a Halltech intake on it. I am sure I need the airflow straightener! I will be trying that next. I picked the car up from the folks working on it and they charged me $500.00 for basicly turning off the 1st to 4th switch that kept turning the check engine light on. They did take it to the local Chev dealership and reflashed the computer. This was a mistake now it stumbles and does not have the power it had before. I will try the Halltech air flow screen and see if it has anymore codes. if it does I will buy a old stock airbox and see if that works. Its now in the garage as the plates are now expired and I was pulled over on the way home from the garage!
Did you prep any before testing? Techron injector cleaner a week before, clean MAF, how old are the Plugs? And change the Oil right before Testing.. My '95 M3 failed once at 120K, Change Oil and it passed.
