Default NEW 4LE60 Automatic

Hi Folks, I am new to the forum, have searched and searched 10 pages of topics to not find an answer close to what I am looking for. I need a ballpark quote as to the price a dealership would charge for a BRAND NEW (not a single part in it ever used / rebuilt) 4LE60 automatic transmission and installed in a 2000 Corvette convertible This includes a new shift cable and any electrical connectors attached to the transmission itself. Basically, the entire unit from head to toe complete and including a new shift cable. Include any other parts that would warrant replacement while the work is performed. I am not looking for a deal, I am looking for a number in dollars. Nobody live or internet seems to be capable to simply spit numbers even remotely close. What ball park amount am I looking at? I was thinking by the time it is all said and done, a dealership might charge 4 to 5 grand to roll it out done right. Am I close? or is it way more or way less. Again, I don't ask the cheapest deal, This will be estimate from a dealership, I just need a number for the amount. I thank you all so very much for your time and efforts. Pete

Why not call a dealer and ask them? They would know best.

I agree and have. I cannot seem to be able to get a straight answer from dealerships. They say they have to put it up on the hoist to see what they have to deal with. I have gotten so weary of this from three different dealerships. One even said that it depends on what automatic transmission is currently in it, as if their is more than one kind of 4LE60 installed in these cars. They all just want me to bring the car in without any commitment to a number. Price quotes over the phone seem to be a taboo action. Everybody wants the car on their hoist. I know that this means they get the work too or I must pay a teardown fee and reinstall fee that yeilds no result at the tune of about 1200 bucks for no work performed. Surely somebody has had a new automatic transmission installed in a C5 somewhere. With or without the cable. You see, I can get a check, just not a blank one. It has to be an accurate amount plus or minus half a grand. Can nobody do that?

oops. sorry of course I meant 4L60E. As far as I am aware, the Corvette housing has a larger accumulator. I cant even find a price for a crate transmission from goodwrench without having to go through a request a quote process that will win me an unlimited amount of spam in my mailbox. I will continue my research until I come up with a number if no one else can. If I can verify it to be accurate against another quote, I will post it on the board if it has not yet been posted by a member. Amazing how shops and even dealerships are so reluctant to simply quote a price. The topic gets immediately diverted by them and then all watered down to the importance of bringing it into them to check out. All I simply need is a number and they seem so afraid to give one. I will let you know what I come up with. Thanks again. This is a cool forum BTW with a lot of good material in it.

We have no clue where you are located since you haven't fully filled out your profile, but if there is a good Vette shop around your area, check with them. I can't understand why a dealer can't give you a quote to just replace what you currently have - it's not like you are asking them to tear into your current tranny and replace the internals - you just want a new unit put in. Obviously if they find something else that may be wrong other than what you specify for them to replace then it will add to the cost, but you probably already knew that and would agree with them.

why dont you call Rodney at RPM trans. they are a forum sponser and a bunch of great guys they wont steer you wrong.. If it was my car i would put one of their transmissions in before i would put in a new stock trans. A lot stronger trans. and you will love the way it shifts.

Thanks for all your help. After I get a quote from a dealer tomorrow by walking up to a service advisor, I am going with the alternative which is to have mine redone and modified so that it is upgraded with the latest developments available. Thrust bearing, clutch housing, valve body Kevlar band, 5 orbital planetary set with the better ratios. That way I know it will last. I just might talk to Rodney as suggested.

Sorry about the incomplete profile; as I will surely catch up on that soon.
Again, thanks for such a great forum

You really should be talking to the PARTS dept, not the service dept.

I don't know why you would want a 'Brand New' transmission. Here at the forum there is a number of great honest shops, RKT56 or Century or RPM transmissions. You know getting a "Brand New" transmission is really not the best idea because I severely doubt a New transmission is even around. The Chevy dealership is just farm out your transmission work to a local transmission shop. You could do that yourself. I'll guaranty it's gonna cost more than having RPM or Century transmissions any of the forum sponsor's are going to charge you. And lets face it, the transmission housing is still good and the shafts are still good , a rebuilt transmission is going to perform excellent if you have it rebuilt it's going to have all new internals. You can also have it modified for something you'd like it to do? It's going to have a warranty and you know it was done by experts ? But it's your call. Good luck !

The tranny case is not likely to wear, so what is wrong with having the guys at RPM stuff your case with all new hi-po arts? Would cost about the same as a new stock tranny and perform better and last longer than a stocker. If you are intent on a new stock one, call Gene at GM parts(a forum sponsor) and get a price from him. A stealership will charge more for the r&r than a shop such as RPM, A&A etc. You might want to fill out where you live so whom ever lives near you can make recommendations for a shop.
