In regards to wheel hop, I suggest new rear shocks, possibly rear springs & a new set of grippier rear tires.

And lastly, while the tranny & diff are out to install the tranny/diff, strut bracing.

This will help the trans & differential from extreme damage.
It's an ECS Eastcoast Supercharging strut brace.
Order one today.
Their add is in the column to the left of this page.
This is what they look like from the bottom, looking up.
There are two more bars going lenght wise on the top side.
Good luck.

As already suggested, I would recommend installing one of our ECS trans braces while being repaired. This may have prevented this from happening in the first place.

We have them in stock ready to ship if your interested.

Hey all,

I am commited to the shop that my car is at. They tore it down today. I am stuck driving a 27 T sedan hotrod till friday.

Output shaft broken, along with trans tailpiece. Then of course the diff is wasted and broke all to hell.

I do not have time to order the 2 different parts suggested to strengthen up this rear end but I can assure you that within a couple months, I will have BOTH of those parts and any other part deemed necassary to make sure this doesnt happen again.

This has turned out to be a great forum. No haters. Every other forum that ive been a member of from off-road motorcycle racing to traditional hotrod sites are full of haters.

Peace everybody

I recommended Rick as he might be able to get you the parts you need and then you can have your shop put it together.

TC I want you to remember Rome was not built in a day and you have a lot of memories to come with your car. First just get your car going again everyone here has had little gremlins biting their butts with their cars. Once you get her up and going take a deep breath and take her for a drive. When you get back wipe that sh%t eating grin from your face and start making a list of things you would like to do or what needs to be done. You will find the parts you need here or on sale from a vendor use the search function to find the answers to the questions you have. Here is a little bit of the list I had that I wanted to do to my Vette.

1) DTE Brace

2) better brakes

3) Cat back / Corsa exhaust / L.G. HEADERS

4) C6Z06 Shifter i.e. (RSD Snap shifter)

5) Rims & Tires

Hope this helps also find a local group of Vette heads and check out their rides.

Well guys, I got my car back today. Verdict was that the main shaft that runs through tranny snapped at the tail end. Broke tail housing and then broke diff housing.

They replaced the shaft and taillpeice and resealed the tranny and I ended up with a salvage differential. Its painted up nice n pretty. Shifts much smoother.

I am happy. And I can assure you all that I will never cause this thing to wheel hop. I am going to get new shocks as suggested and am still teetering on the ECS brace. My shop said they will install it cheap for me.

I will have a pic of that broken shaft tomorrow. If anybody even cares.

Sounds as though you had a shop that knew how to work on a C/5.
Glad that you're happy with their work.
Yes, when you get a chance, post oupa pictures of the carnage.

What did that labor/parts work out in$$$$?
Good luck, going forward.

Sounds like a happy ending. Yeah, the tranny is pretty basic for a skilled mechanic. However, it's probably a good thing that you found a used diff. I've only seen a couple shops that can actually do good work on the C5 diff - although I've seen several that claim to, and fail.

I used the same shop that rebuilt a T400 for a street rod. They told me theyve never worked on a C5 M6, just 'matics. Nice big place, not a hole in the wall.

I dont have a prob talking about costs. Parts and labor for the whole thing was $3300.00. That inclused that main shaft and rear housing on trans and a salvage diff which they charged me $720 for. So roughly $2600 to remove and rebuild my M6.

I have never paid for car repairs that cost that much. Nowhere even close. I am just lucky I had the money is all. Its not always that way for me.
