Never heard that the painted top made the car quieter....could this just be your imagination? I can't come up with any engineering explanation for this...both tops have to fit perfectly from the factory...maybe your glass top was out of whack and let in some noise/wind....
Do you know the difference in weight between the lexan top and the solid top? Thanks
I assume that the solid fiberglass top has some sort of insulation behind the headliner to keep it quieter. The OP can probably apply some insulation, then a headliner, to help keep the interior cooler and quieter if this is his only top.
I never use my glass top. Here in Texas it just gets too hot. I figure if I want the sun beating down on my balding head I'll just take the top off. Besides, I think the painted top looks better on my car.
I have never used my solid top. The clear top gives you a bit more noggin room.
And lets an amazing amount of light in. I don't have a glass top yet, but had one on my C4. With the tinted windows to match the top, it was perfect. I can't wait to get a glass top for this one.
I just got a painted top for my 03 and I love it. Changes the look of the car and is quieter and cooler inside. Now I've got to decide whether or not to sell the lexan one.

And the car just looks more awesome with the solid color top!!
I have both....I am not sure which top came as stock
The solid colored roof came as stock. For $750 you could have the transparent roof panel only. For $1,200 you could have both.

the solid top is a little heavier, but the difference seems minimal.

The solid top is definitely quieter, thicker material and a thick interior lining blocks ambient noise much better than the transparent roof.
