How many not running TPMS

I have a 98 whose TPMS was inop when I bought the car two years ago. I have Z06 repros with Firestone Firehawk run flats. Not sure if the sensors are in there or just not programmed or what. I am so used to just clearing the DIC when I start the car that it is second nature. I understand that there is no way to turn off the DIC message except for clearing it.
Im told that you can turn off the TPS system with a Tech II. Mine all function but thought I wuold pass this info on.

My 99 reads zero on all the tires when you hit gauges. But there are no error messages on the DIC. What does that mean? I'd be happy to do without them but error messages would bug me. Does the TPMS message pop up right away or do you have to drive the car?

If you purchased used, a previous owner could have had them programed out.
