Stupid steering wheel removal!!!

i remember from one of the many aftermarket steering wheel threads someone mentioned having a problem similar to yours. he ended up using some kind of puller that pulled the wheel from the outside. may be something to look into if you decide not to cut it off.

Yep! I feel your pain! Mine looked exactly the same. I had removed the front seat and put down towels. Next I dressed up the splines with a triangle jewlers file. It looked like new. I used never sieze then a new nut from the dealer with a squirt of thread locker. Hopefully my new wheel will come off if I need to change switches etc without tearing the new wheel up.!

mine was a rewrap from a company in Dallas. First class job went with black & pewter. I need to figure how to post pictures as I have several that takes this c5 from side swiped to painted then a bunch of add ons. Rayshound

I have to ask..... The two threaded holes.... Why didn't you just use a cheap puller and the two threaded holes? I've removed many steering wheels this way and never had an issue.
You install the puller on the the wheel, tighten it down a little and tap the end of the puller with a hammer if required to pop it free.
Am I missing something that makes this particular job more difficult that that?

You must not have read the whole thread. Lol.
Corvettes don't have a threaded wheel. U have to use hook. which often snap or don't work. I tapped the wheel to use the threaded style. but because the wheel isn't made from steel, the threads ripped out

it really is terrible. Im just glad I was able to get it off. although, now i have a air bag light that stays on. I must have installed the resistors wrong or something.

You are probably thinking that this is bigger than you and wish you never started?! Funny how a little project can become major.. good luck and thanks for the read. I will never even think of replacing my wheel after this read. Greetings, Rob
