I live in what some call the most densely populated county in Florida and the only time I see other Vettes is when I'm on my Harley and it's raining.....Murphy's Law????????????
When I read your title, I could only think of..."opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one." I live 10 miles from Carlisle and the only time that I see a lot of Corvettes is during the last weekend in AUGUST.
300 million Americans divided by all Corvettes produced (1.3 million)
Gives you the ratio of approximately ONE of every 230,000 Americans owns a Corvette.
So that statement is incorrect.
So is yours!
In our group, there are 2 guys who own 3 Vettes and 6 guys who own 2! Maybe the statement should read 'Everyone who has a Vette has two of them'!
They are thick around here, but this area is in the middle of another "boom" with the Oil Business (been here before). Even when I go to my gym at night there will be a smattering of new Z06's, ZR-1's, several Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Maserati's and even a Bentley - all new with Dealer Tags for the most part. Hundreds of people are moving into this area per day - you cannot even get in a restaurant here to eat and the traffic is Hell! Thousands of homes being built, but no infrastructure to compensate, but that is another story... C6's on almost every block here.

Sounds like Corpus Christi was in the early 80's. But then, as is my luck, the bottom fell out in late '83/'84. You couldn't sell a car, a house, etc; unless you were willing to give it away.
There are lots of Vettes because they are amazing cars for the money. They are def the more common of entry level sports cars though... but not something I would consider common by any means.
I've spent the last 17 years working in two small towns in South Carolina that are 20 miles apart. I've driven vettes while working in both towns and through the years I've waved at the same 10 or so people over and over and over and over.
In the town our primary broadcast facilities are in, I've only seen 2 C6's. There are about 5 C5's running about, 6 or 7 C4's and 5 or 6 C3's that I only see on sunny saturday afternoons.
A new vette sits in the showroom at the local chevy stealership two years before it sells and that's usually to someone that makes it a garage queen and nobody ever sees it again.
Around here, we have more pulp wood logging trucks on the road than corvettes. Vettes actually stand out a bit and get attention in these small towns and I never hear the "everybody" statement. Drive to a bigger town like Greenville, Charleston or Columbia and that changes.
I see C5's and 6's much more often in those cities and have heard things from car guys I know like "If you gonna drive a sports car why don't you drive a real one. So and so has a maserati coupe for $30k and a lotus for $28". This particular statement came from a guy driving a miata. I replied "If you are gonna drive an english roadster why don't you drive a real one. I know a guy with a mgb for $5k and the classic car dealership has a sunbeam for $10k. You drive a ricer copy. A corvette may not be high brow but it's the real deal."
I pissed the guy off but I work hard for the things I have and didn't need the insult. What's worse is I like miatas. They are fun little things in my opinion.
There are tons of them here in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. Never had anyone say "everyone has one" though. As others have said....I did not buy this car for them. I bought it because I have wanted one of these beasts for as long as I can remember.
That is 351 2003 Speedway White Coupes. "Speedway Whites" altogether total about 4907, FWIW.
lol. I said I didnt know everyone had a car they only built 381 of (medium purple pearl metallic)
then he came back with something about my car having bondo all over it...(there isnt a spot of bondo on mine) he was talking out of his *** to try and **** me off.
comments from someone who does not own a vet always amuse me. one thing for sure is no matter what the other car is you have to take the vet serious when it matters because it will probably come down to the driver.
also on another note the respect from other perfomance car owners has surprised me. i have passed 2 vipers now in oncoming lane and both waived. way cool! and this summer driving through sherwood were they have a huge car show i rolled up next to another viper and the owner was super friendly as we talked at each stop light.
CORVETTE the benchmark by which all others are judged.
