Default Center Console Question

I just got my first corvette on Friday and sure enough, a mustang backed into it. My neighbor is going to cover all costs fortunately (great neighbors).

Here is my question. The center console by the shifter and around the CD player is starting to have paint wear off. The paint is super dark navy/faded black with black plastic underneath. I will have all the hard plastic pieces from the waterfall beneath the seats up to the CD player, and left over to the door white. I may leave pieces black like the cup holder lid, the traction control bezel, and obviously all of the buttons and shifter black.

I talked with the guy that is going to be doing my car's work and he said that he would repaint those pieces for me for a little extra since he would make a little more paint to cover the pieces.

My car is Arctic white, and here is a picture of my interior:

You can see a little bit where the paint has been rubbed off. I am going to have the console plastic repainted white and the small piece of trim where the trunk button to the left of the steering column white.

Does anyone else have pictures of theirs that I could look at, or does anyone have any tips they can give when removing those pieces to sand?

Thanks guys.

The MGW shifter install video has very detailed instructions & tips (starting at 5:20):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=GEd2F-RMdmw#!
http://mgwltd.com/corvette_short_thr...allation.shtml

But you'll have to look elsewhere for info on removing your auto trans shifter **** (it's out there somewhere, I think).

Thanks CO, I watched the portion of that video that pertains to me and I think that is something that I can tackle fairly quick. It shouldn't be any trouble to get those pieces out.

OP, sorry about your mishap. Sounds like the neighbor is going to make it right, which must be a relief.

Good luck.

Yes, and actually... between my last post and this one, I was able to run out to my car real fast and remove all of the console pieces, exactly like what they showed in the video.

Now it's time to get the little pieces off of it and start sanding.

Some folks won't like how I did mine... I used carburetor and choke cleaner to remove that rubber coating, melted off quicky.

Wet sanded the the plastic starting with 120 grit then 400 grit, 800 grit and a final 2000 grit then cleaned it with dish soap and rubbing alcohol.
All paint applied with spray can, krylon primer and matte finish clear and dupi-color Artic White

3 coats of primer with light wet sanding 2000 grit between all coats of paint. 3 coats of base color and then 3 coats of matte clear , because I didn't want the console shiny. Just let the paint dry between coats as per spray can directions. (If you use a metallic base color do not sand the base color if will be mottled and won't look right.)
Hope this helps.....good luck and have fun

Finished product..well almost, need to finish the rest of the arm rest console piece currently silver

Default Console repainting ?

Bud, I'd never redo the console in friggn White. There' absolutely anything that correspondences to white. I replace the console in Black or even a medium burl-wood, or redo the console with a leather wrap like Apsisusa.com does. They do fabulous work.

My car is white, the body shop is actually going to repair the door instead of replace it, they will already have the matching paint made, I'm in the process of sanding all of my pieces down right now with 150, 400, 800, and a 1500 or 2000 for final.
