Default thinking about selling c2 .

thinking of selling 66 and getting c5 or used c6 or a certain foreign sports car that if i named might get me banned . what are good and bad points of c5 versus c6 as you see them . i hated c5's when the first came out but have since seen some that look really nice . haven't paid any attention to c6's so haven't formed an opinion [ that might answer my question for me ]. thanks . . .peace

Default Sell it

Two years ago we sold our '66 vert for a '01 Z06. This is the best thing I have done lately. We have put close to 40,000 miles on it. We could never have done this in the C-2.
Sell it and hit the road!

I still own a 64 Convertible and traded in my 95 for a 98 Convertible when I retired in 1998.
Have absolutely no desire to sell the 64...ITS pure fun to drive ...

Now that I said that I admit that I limit my drives to under an hour in the 64 ..My *** hurts, my back hurts, my arms hurt and I need a break...rides like a buck board its loud it has no power steering or brakes .. ITS work to drive...BUT OH BOY DO I LIKE THAT KIND OF WORK....

My 98 6 sp Convertible now has 26,000 COMPLETELY problem free miles on her clock stock except 2000 wheels and a Street Legal performance bolt on kit and cat back exhaust..

I HONESTLY do not know how you could compare the MidYear to any newer C5 or C6 Corvette....Completely different ..long trips in the 98 are comfortable it rides soft (its a Z51 however) enough my wife does not complain yet I can enjoy the stiffness..

Guess the bottom line for me is IF I only had one Corvette it would be the newer C5 ..BUT it honestly does not get my adrenalin up and pumping like the Mid Year . .and the C5 will kick the 64's butt in every respect except "looks" and that is subjective..

No desire for a C6 ..and to be frank I never paid a heck of a lot of attention to them..

I've have had five Corvettes and the 2003 C5 to me is a true multi-leval sports car. It requires very little maintenance and it can run at 85 all day long. Great on long trips, easy to park and for me it's a joy to just drive. I had a pristine 1979 L-48, great car, NCRS second flight winner, but it couldn't hold a candle to my C5.

dont sell your C2. you will regret it later. A C2 is a piece of American history and just beautiful. A c5 or C6 is a get back and forth to work car.

C5 - classic design, excellent performance stock, great MPG, ergonomics are very good, lots of room.

C6 - more of a sharp edged design, obviously more expensive to buy than a C5, more powerful engine than C5 (stock to stock), can get paddle shift auto if desired, upgraded interior materials.

You really won't go wrong with either platform - it just comes down to how much money do you want to spend and which one really looks best to you and fits your needs. IMO, for the money, the C5 is very hard to beat.

They Cayman was justly tagged as the "cockster" by Top Gear-Nobody, nobody in the entire universe, would buy a Cayman if they could afford a 911, and driving one just makes you look like a desperate social climber trying to cash in on a brand name. The C2 is a piece of history-I guarantee it gets more attention anywhere on earth than a Cayman. If you're going for a modern sports car with some real power, go big or go home-get a C6 Z or full blown 911, or else keep the 66 and get a cheaper C5, which you can probably afford to do (a nice C5 will set you back $15,000-$16,000). Don't settle for a Cayman-you're better than that and you know it, and I say this as somebody who has nothing but deep, starry-eyed reverence for Porsche specifically, and the 911 line in particular.

I was looking at 996 Porsche 911's, 987 Boxsters, and Caymans. All 13-25k. Nice cars, looks good (subjective), handle well (objective), but the deal breaker was the price of repairs. I spent 1000 on repairs for my 10,000 C5 Corvette. For that 1,000 I got a brand new dual climate control head unit, wiper motor, AC recharge, Oil Sender, and new Rear tires, and an oil change with labor. For that price you would be hard pressed to get half that on a Porsche.

Yeah. My friend has a 911 Turbo. His engine went out while it was still under warranty for some reason, so it was replaced. If it hadn't been under warranty he would have been on the hook for, wait for it, $39,000.

......Why are you asking about buying a c5? or the difference if you already own one?
