Default Tire mounting cost

Normally if costs around $12 to $15 to have a tire mounted here. I had my son take in one of my wheels to have a new tire installed and they charged $47 fricking dollars because it was a performance tire! I realize there is a Corvette tax, but this seems way out of line. What does it cost in other parts of the country?

there shouldnt be any difference, I have had slicks mounted before and it was always the same price, I even had a shop mount them for me for free.

How old is your son? Might have been the young person tax.

I have paid more for my oversized jeep tires than any "performance" tire, and even that has never been more than 20 bucks.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think they put it to my young son. Won't happen again, though.

My tire shop charges $15.00 per wheel to mount tires on my i-Forged Swifts.

Just tell him what to pay! Its good experience for him, people will try to squeeze a penny out of anyone. I feel bad for women that need vehicle work done...

I know a few shops will charge more for low profile tires like those on our cars especially when they are run flats because the sidewalls are so difficult to get onto the rims which takes longer to mount.

They do the same here too, but if you have non-runflats, the cost should be about the same as any other car.

If you go on the Tire Rack site, you can punch in your Zip and a list of installers comes up with prices. Evidently these shops don't mind making some money just mounting and balancing. I checked and found a highly reccomended shop that will mount and balance all 4 ( C6 size ) for $66.

I suspect you may have run into a shop that was pissed you bought the tire somewhere else. So they stuck it to you.

If you have good year shops in your area, they are
fair and ethical

Not in my area. When I bought new wheels and wanted to sell my OE wheels I needed to remove the tires as they were toast. Local GY dealer wanted something like $32 ea just to remove the runflats!
Went to a local discount tire and I think they charged me $8, and that was for all four!

Whatever you do, don't go to Discount Tire !! They quoted me $100 bucks to mount 2 rear tires !!! That's FREAKIN INSANE !!

I found a local "tire shop" that sells new and used tires and repairs flats. Got it all done for $30 bucks ! Mounted and balanced.

These company chain places are a rip-off ! Telling me they HAD to rebuild my TPS's as part of the tire change. What a crock !

I got so mad at them all that I bought a tire machine and balancer.

Actually I went in with my brother in law and we got a package deal on some used ones, so we each have them now. Worked out great. We got them about 3 years ago, and we both figure that they are more than paid for with just the tire swaps and repairs we have done.

It is far more convenient and we can also be careful and not damage anything.

Try checking with some local equipment suppliers for new style used equipment. There are some pretty good deals out there.

Can you fill us in on what you paid for the equipment, just to give the rest of us a ballpark number ?

Sounds like a bad location - I've had nothing but good service from Discount Tire - even fixed 1 of my GY runflats for free....

Just put a set on my wifes Camry - $16 per for mounting and spin balance...

And no not a bad location, I called 2 different stores and got the same response.

I didn't buy the tires from them. I just went there to have them mounted. I can tell you I WILL NEVER give them any business what-so-ever !!

Did they "road force balance" the wheel?
I paid an extra 30.00 a wheel for that.
