I just read in another forum, excuse my infidelity, that if you hold down the active handling control button for 5 seconds, you go into competition mode. I must assume he wasn't talking about a model with the expensive handling option otherwise why go through the 5 second hold. Can anyone tell me exactly what this does other than turning off the active handling which doesn't require a 5 second hold? Does it firm up the suspension or...:?
Well for starters it depends on what generation your active handling is, the first gen you had to be stopped and I think it takes ten seconds. The second gen system can be done on the fly and that only takes 5 seconds if Im not mistaken.
Anyways they both do the same thing in that they turn off traction control and leave active handling on, that way if you start to spin you wont lose power but if you start to lose it the computer will help save you.

And just to clarify, when he says "start to spin" he means spin tires - not spin your car.
Thanks guys. so if I understand correctly, pushing and releasing the button turns off active handling and traction control. If I hold the button down for 5 seconds, I turn off traction control while maintaining active handling. That sound right?

Competitive Driving Mode
The driver can select the optional handling mode by
pressing the ACTIVE HANDLING button on the
console for more than five seconds, while the vehicle
is stopped with the ignition on. Competitive Driving
mode allows the driver to have full control of the rear
wheels while the Active Handling System helps steer the
vehicle by selective brake application. The instrument
cluster light will not be on. The Traction Control System
will not be operating. Adjust your driving accordingly.
When you press the ACTIVE HANDLING button
again, or turn the ignition to ACC, the Active
Handling and Traction Control Systems will be on.
The TRAC/ACT HNDLG-ON message will be
displayed temporarily in the DIC and a chime
will be heard.
Corvettes are so cheap now, not all owners know how to read! They certainly can't spell.
After a quick review of your history of postings, let me be the first to thank you for providing the forum with the perfect stereotypical archetype for the corvette - porcupine joke.

Nahhhh - porcupines have the ****** on the outside.
You keep settin' 'em up and I'll keep on knockin' 'em down.
i agree with bumr!
with comp mode on car will limit power but you have to be real slideways and its not like traction control starts with taking timing out of engine and if you dont lift will take over throttle also. found this out on a very tight left corner when she snapped loose on me.
My yaw sensor went up code 28-TC-C1282HC and I have disabled my tracation control/active handling you have to be sensible about how you drive but remember probably 80% of all cars out there does not even have it, also I think it was the 1st 2yrs of the C5 did not even have TC/AH and for the next couple of years on the C5 it was a optional item. Thank you Chuck.

They did not have active handling as an option but all came standard with traction control, and yes in 99 and 2000 active handling was an option.
