I got a price to get my engine power steamed for 35 bucks. price sounds good but i was wondering if this could harm it in any way? has anyone had the engine washed before?

Have you ever washed your engine compartment? If you have you may not run into problems. but for $35 do not expect anyone to spend the time to protect the areas that are vulnerable to high pressure steam. And is it a steam cleaning or a power wash? The temperature difference is quite great.

WINDEX or diluted WINDEX is good to use as well. If it's really greasy...shame on you you can use non chlorinated brake cleaner (with caution to paint) to get those areas followed by diluted SIMPLE GREEN or WINDEX. I sometimes use denatured alcohol saturated on a rag. Fix obvious sources of oil leaks or this is all for naught.
Once it's clean, a regular detailing with 303 PROTECTANT will maintain it that way.

Diluted Simple Green works great. Keeps this engine bay looking great.
