Just my opinion, If someone asks about my car I would be more than happy to talk about it. There are a lot of people that love cars, But they don't know a lot about them.

I guess someone doesnt have much of a sense of humor today. But I would like to point out that after we exchanged these few lines I talked to this kid for about a half hour about cars. I was not a straight up *** to him he was laughing the whole time at himself and knew what a modular motor was and thought it was funny. Dont be so quick to judge Mr Bill

I've had a lot of people compliment Trans Ams, with "Nice Corvette!"

Argue that the transmission isn't a six speed, unless you count reverse.

Or that there's no way they could run twelves stock.

Ford.

I mentioned this before. You have a Vette? Yeah What year? 99 Does it have a V8 ?

I didn't get smart. Just said they all do unless you are talking about the first ones. Kid looked kinda dumbfounded and mumbled something about he thought some had V6s. Looking back at it now I bet he was thinking of a Camaro.

Thanks for helping to make Corvette owners seem like jerks. Great way to turn kids away from the car hobby. I like to give rides if the parents agree. I tell the parents, I will accelerate strongly, but will not exceed the speed limit. I also give the kids a helmet, they think that is really cool. Usually it is the first time they have ever used one. I finish off by taking a picture of them in the driver seat with the hemet on and print them out a picture to make their school friends jealous.

Please try and grow up aroung the kids, if you can.

This is not a corvette story, my sister in law asked if my Harley had air conditioning after she noticed the outside temperature gauge.

Sadly, that (people thinking we are jerks) has been the case for many years. Mention that you have, or are thinking about getting a Vette' and the responses will be varied, but in many cases, not positive.

I hate getting anything new (new to me) due to the most popular question I get asked (what did you get that for?). This is not specific to Vettes, but I have already gotten it a few times. I just tell them I have always wanted one, and now I am in a position to own one. People who know little about them always think they cost more than they do, with the possible exception of the higher end new ones, which at times even surprise me at the cost.

The phrase I'm most sick of is:

"Do a burnout!"

Granted it isn't really a dumb question, just one of those phrases that drives me nuts! I have heard it put this way numerous times though:

"Have you done any sweet burnouts yet?"

As if my sole purpose was to buy a z06 and burn rubber back and forth to work everyday! I actually spend most of my time concentrating on the opposite, getting the rears to hook up with minimal spin! People look at me retarded when I tell them that.

I usually just get nice car.

But one day a gentleman about 80 years old ask me

"will it do a 100 on a straight away"

For you young guys that's how the old timers gaged speed back in the day, by referring to a straight away, because back then they didn't have interstates and straight line highways, they were always twisties built on some of the original indian trails. So they would open them up on roads if they had a straight away for a few miles. That's for certain parts of the country though, not all of them.

When I told him more like 170, he said oh no, not me. I said me either but that's what they tell me. Of course I didn't consider this dumb, I enjoyed talking to the guy.
