There's a great book that's published full of GM's secret high tech information they've spent thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars to be able and read to use in the everyday operation and maintenance of Corvettes. BUT the key to learning those super secret pearls of wisdom means you must be able to figure out how to access that secret hidden compartment in all Corvettes.
Once you figure that out, the world will take on a whole new look. You'll never have to rely on asking complete strangers for how to take care of your Corvette or THAT STUPID POST ON WHAT OIL DO I USE? cause someone told me Peanut butter oil is better.
I want my click back......but then again, I knew how this was gonna end to start with.
and at the time of an oil change to add a pint of marvel mystery oil to my 2001 vette....
says that it expands the rings around the valves and minimizes wear, is this true?
Oil minimizes wear...it's true... are you experiencing problems?

I was told by a Chevy Vette mechanic that 1qt oil consumption every 4k miles in C5's is normal as well as adding pt of marvel mystery oil when changing oil. No problems. Just trying to avoid them if it is good advice.
Mobile 1 5w30 in northeast Texas with AC Delco filter, always changed going by the OLM on the DIC. 150,000 miles on my heads/cam stock bottom motor, runs stronger than ever and doesn't lose a drop between oil changes.
I don't have any scientific data for where Mobil 1 stacks up with the other oils, but it's been good to me so I don't plan on changing any time soon.

I have been using Mobile 1 10w/30 and lost a qt in 4K miles. Shld I be using 5W/30 instead. I am in New Jersey, along shore.

I have a '98 but i have read that the '01+ have oil consumption issues and there may not be anything you can do about it...
There are many threads about oil consumption if you do a search.

So yr adv is don't use mystery oil? Anyone heard of it or has tried it?
It certainly won't hurt anything, but it will thin your oil, somewhat. They use to use it years ago to get rid of the caking on the valves, just squirt a bunch into the carb with the engine running. It was kinda like a mosquito fogger with a nice fragrance. My dad swore by the stuff back in the fifties.
Use a good oil like Mobil 1, 5 or 10w30 and don't use any additives, you'll be just fine.

I personally wouldn't add anything to my oil. Oil companies state that additives can upset the balance of their oils and advise against additives. Slick 50 was a major additive for many years until they got taken to task by the FTC: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1997/12/petapp62.97.shtm
mobil 5w30 came with the car so stick with it, and drive like you stole it. that is what i use in mine and have had no problems.
Look, your going to get a ton of "MY oil is better than your Oil " You can do what you want, but there are a whole bunch of forum members who have rolled right on pass the 100.000 - 200.000 and 300.000 miles and all they did was change the oil as the oil monitor said and use Mobil-1 5W/30 synthetic. I've used it since I bought my 2003 LS1 and in almost ten years no problem no issues nothing but good Lubricating service. But it all boils down to using a good synthetic oil that passes GM 4718M specs. I use Mobil-1 so I don't have to get into a Amsoil MLM scheme or pay $12 per quart for racing oil or all the other ideal oils out there. Mobil-1 is the factory fill for all Corvettes since 1996 including the 2011 LS9 supercharged engine. If it's good for GM it is good for me and it costs me about $35 for the Mobil-1 at walmart and I buy a good filter like the Mobil-1 oil filter as well. Why fix something that isn't broke.
What's different about West Texas? It's good where ever...
Temperature variance was my only concern. One day it can be 60 and the next 98. I was curious about the average oil in overall average temp. Winter can be pretty cold and very hot in summer.
