Anyone have the going oil recommended for c5's. I hear too many opinions from people other than owners. Not gonna do it unless ya'll have the best suggestions. Thanks

use whatever oill you want with the new GM DEXOS or old 4718 approved label. It just so happens that the Mobil 5w30 is usually the cheapest and gets pretty good reviews in every used oil analysis report ever posted.

So far I've stuck with Mobil 1 5W/30 which is the GM recommended oil. You can use any GM4718M approved oil but it must be synthetic. If heard of a few members who use non approved oils but generally because they trust the brand and the oil is of known quality but the manufacturer hasn't gone through the approval process.
I've attached the latest list of approved oils below. All the approved oils are low viscosity, winter weight oils.
In West TX your temperature range is higher than most (I'd say 32F to 110F). In my time in San Antonio I only saw temperatures dip below freezing once in 3 years so you might get away with a lighter oil. Even so why risk anything lighter than 5W/30 or 10W/30? There are still plenty of choices if you decide to go 10W/30. In England my choice is easy. I used 5W/30 in Vegas for 3 years without any variation on operating temperatures/pressures of the engine or any starting issues but my car was garaged overnight. Like West TX, winter temperatures were rarely much below freezing and I saw 136F in Death Valley once.

I run AMSOIL's racing oil in my Z06 now, but used their top tier synthetic in my 06 CTS-V (LS2 engine) that was my daily driver from 06-09 and got good used oil analysis results. AMSOIL Signature Series 100% Synthetic 5w30 (Product Code ASLQT)
Cadillac CTS-V Used Oil Analysis - AMSOIL 0w30
Note: Jun 07 sample was Mobil 1 5w30, the rest AMSOIL Signature Series. Wear metals primarily Aluminum, copper, iron, lead. Total Base Number a measure of the oil's remaining life (higher better) based on resistance to acidic buildup of engine exhaust byproducts making the oil more acidic over time.
I have been advised to use 10w/30 and at the time of an oil change to add a pint of marvel mystery oil to my 2001 vette.
has anyone heard abt or done this before.
says that it expands the rings around the valves and minimizes wear, is this true?
