Default 2001 TPMS Tire Sensor Question

Hope you guys can help me out with some info. I usually hang out on the C1/C2 and C3 boards.

I need 4 new tires for my 2001 coupe. The two front sensors are non functional. The two rear tire sensors are missing. They were gone when I bought the car.

I still have the original run-flats with 32K miles on them, so it's time for some new shoes.

Tire sensors:

GM sells them for about $80.00 each. = $320. for a set
Dorman sells them for about $40.00 each. = $160. for a set

My tire guy quoted me the price for 4 GM sensors, but not the Dormans, which I can buy off of EBAY.

QUESTION:

Do either of these "brands" of sensors require some type of installation kit? ("O" rings, gaskets, etc.)

If so, does that "kit" come with the sensors, or is it a separate item?

If I buy the Dorman aftermarket sensors, will I need to buy something else?

Any help will be appreciated.

TIA.

Chuck

Chuck,

Tire Rack has them but you have to call.. for about the same price +4/tire for a rebuild kit. also Gene Cully has them. I just changed wheels/tires a month ago and replaced all my sensors....

to answer your question, you'll need the sensors plus a rebuild kit which comes with rings and such...

Thanks for the info. I sorta thought that you needed some type of gasket kit.

I'm very familiar with Tire Rack. I can give 'em a call.

I'm not familiar with Gene Cully.

Thank you again, Darkstar.

I've bookmarked that thread. I sorta thought I needed an installation kit, and the TPMS sensors I see on EBAY do not specify that they have the necessary "stuff" to put them in.

As I mentioned, when I bought this C5 over 2 years ago with 24K miles, the rear sensors were already GONE, MIA.

I don't get to the C5 section much, thus I was unfamiliar with Gene.

Come over and visit us old guys in C1/C2.
