Default What is this for?

I have raplaced my shocks and when I was doint that I noticed these things on my rear suspension. Looked through manuals and it seems that it must be a after market part. Can anybody tell what they are and what they do? Also do I really need to have them on? Thanks all.

I don't know for sure but it looks like they were put on to prevent the shaft from knocking the hell out of everything should one side break.

Looks like a safety hoop to me too. Can't be on a lot of drag strips without one.

Safety loop/hoop, I assume you have one on each side. I use something similar on my cars with driveshafts where they are mounted near the transmission. That way if the shaft breaks then you don't "pole vault". If it breaks near the rear end then it would just drag or slide out of the transmission.

yea what they said its a safety look. Was your car beat on the track by a previous owner? Dont need it but y take it off? When i was 19 or[two yrs ago] i threw the shaft on my last of the breed ws6 thru the floor board. That car was fun and ran a 12.0 on stock motor. After that i threw a shaft loop on.
