Just purchased my first c5 its an 04 with only 6200 miles. I love it. But when I turn hard right or left it makes a grinding noise. Sounds like its coming from the front tire area. Any idea what it could be ? It's driving me nuts knowing that it's doing that. Can anyone ease my mind. Lol
Are you talking about cranking the wheel one way or the other in parking lot situations? Also is still somewhat cool out in your location? It could be from the 8 year old hardened run flat tires.
Could be your wheel bearings. Test is get it off the ground and grab the wheel/tire at (9:00 and 3:00) and then (6:00 and 12:00). You should have little or no play. If you do, thats your problem.
Sounds like wheel bearings. Do the shake test as before, but I have done that and had no play and bearing still shot. May try a stethoscope on each wheel and give it a spin. If it sounds like my knees feel then the bearing is shot.
If the tires are original, even if it's not them making the noise, they should be replaced. I got a 2003 Z06 a few weeks ago with a similar mileage and changing the tires made a huge difference. Above 80 mph I had a lot of shimmy in the steering - gone as soon as the new tires were fitted. I was told that any tires, especially high performance ones, are an accident waiting to happen after they are more than 8 years old. Apparently they are about as flexible as wood by that age.
i had similar problem but noise came from back . chevrolet changed diff fluid and it's all better . be sure noise is from front before investing any money in repairs .
I did lift n check for bad bearing's
Everything's tight.but that doesn't mean their not bad. Car is under warranty.just don't want to be screwed by the dealer. Thanks for the reply's.
