All came with antennas. Many have them in the windshield and rear glass, and some came with power antennas mounted on the rear fender. Over the years, someone probably decided to replace the power antenna with a stubby.

The Vert antenna is a retractable type on the rear fender. Some owners cut the wire that provideds power to extend the antenna so it doesn't extend. In a strong signal area it'll still work. You could replace it with a shorty if you wish.

The coupe has a different fit

On my Z06 I removed the antenna and filled the hole. Relocated the stock antenna inside the rear bumper.

No need to cut the wire on a vert. There is a plastic connector behind the trunk liner that can be unplugged.

You use he same grommet at the opening but you have to get a Z06/FRC antenna base/bracket to hold the stubby. I found a used bracket and the mounting holes did not align so great but it's in there and seems to be pretty solid.

I had the same reaction when I bought my convertible.

I changed my antenna for a hidden amplified antenna

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...a-install.html

I would first just unplug the power connector and see if you still get good enough reception. The connector has 3 wires and you can access it from the trunk behind the antenna if you fold away the carpet pieces in the corner.
