Well he saw my new-er '99 A4 and just couldn't take it I guess. Yesterday afternoon he came home with a 400 horse '11 Camaro ss 6.2 auto. I'm not interested in playing any "mine is bigger than yours" games and when we talk, I'm certainly not going to sound like a 16 year old and suggest it but I would like to know from anyone with experience if he would spank me at our local strip.
The local 1/8th mile drag strip is less than a mile away from us. Just wondering if I had a chance against him on a 1/8 mile run. That camaro has to be pretty heavy but I wouldn't think my '99 with 88k miles is not putting anywhere near 345 horses to the pavement any longer. If you've run one with an early C5, holler back.
You don't have to tell him about the new supercharger you just installed.

Put a new set of Mickey Thompson drag radials on the rear and this
debate is over no matter what gears you have in back. If your current
rear tires are old aged it will be difficult to launch without spinning and
without the back 1/8 th mile you may not catch him. His auto w/new
tires will hook fairly well.....

I had my car retuned 2 weeks ago, and there was a 12' Camaro SS Auto on the dyno (Mustang) and the best it did was 317hp

I thought that was pathetic for a big bad SS!

Trans tunes really wake up Camaros, but if it's bone stock, it's a big fat slow pig!

They aren't slow....Vettes are just that far ahead of their time.

Very true, raced a 2011 Charger R/T last Frday at a test and tune and hurt the owners feelings. They only have 370hp compared to the Camaros SS 426 and they weigh in at 4400lbs - Almost the same as my 2000 Lightning in my earlier post the beat a SS in the 1/8th. They guy just bought it probably paid 35,000 for it he had every single decal, sticker, badge, interior, wheel option you could get from the dealer. Burnt orange with Black accents and it was a turd.

Reading up on them even with their new engine shutt off fuel economy crap it only gets 16mpg in the city on 4 cyclinders.

I went to the local GM dealor and test drove a 2012 SS427 camaro w/a 6spd. I drove up in my 00 vette and told the saleman that I'm going to drive it like I drive my vette. OK? and he said OK. I didn't beat on it but I didn't baby it either. I ran up the RPM's on each shift and for the most part only got to 3rd. Here's what I thought of the SS427. Nice car. Heavy and doesn't handle like my 00 vette. The car didn't pull like the vette either. My mods, C6 Z06 shocks, sways and Z06 wheels and tires. I have LT headers into koohs X pipe w/HP cats going into a Ti exhaust, a CAI and a ECS tune.

Do I like the car. Hell yeah whats not to like. Would I buy one? No. If I had the $$ I would buy a newer (used) Z06 or GS vette. But that's because i have a DD. If I could only have one car I may take the SS427 over a vette. Just for the extra room.

Lastly to answer the OP's question I think my vette would be this car at the track and would out handle it any day of the week.

DO dealers have these? I thought there were a few "one off" lingenfelters, etc. but didn't know any dealers had them. I'd love to drive one. Hell, I'd buy a new camaro in a minute with that firebird kit on it if I had the moooooola. Truthfully, for new camaro money I think I'd get another C3, C4 and an old IROC with the change. The wife would throw me out for good if I put any more cars on our property.
