I've spent my entire 32 years of existence around Corvettes. My dad's owned 15 different ones over the years, starting in 1969 with a brand new one he bought as he was going into the Navy out of College. When I was born, he had a '65 and '66 Roadsters sitting in his garage in Spring Valley. When he was dating my step-mom down in San Diego in 1988-89, we'd come down from Ventura County in his '77 Stingray Friday after work/school, then haul butt back up early Monday morning. Bought my first Vette at 26, and am on #3(which is a keeper!). He still has 4 of his own right now. 3x C4's and my very first C5(2001 A4).
Many of us got hooked as kids, and though some of you had to wait many years to get yours, it was only a matter of time before we all joined the club!
Here's my dad with my two aunts back in 1970 up in Minnesota.
And me with his '86 Convertible in 2004 with a couple girls visiting from back east for a summer break.
I plan on having a picture made of him and I standing next to our C5's one of these days.
I cruised past the high school the other day and a car full of young boys quickly pulled in behind me in their dad's Beamer. Down the road we hit a stop light. They got into the left turn lane and were a car length behind me and to my left.
I checked my side mirror and saw the young man in the passenger seat slide his aviator sunglasses down his nose to get a better look. Thru the low rumble of my Magna Flows I heard him say, "S-W-E-E-T".
If you can impress a teenager, you must have something special.
Great thread.
I remember the first Corvette I ever saw, it was a C5 millennium yellow coupe. I asked my friend what car it was and he knew exactly what it was.
From that point on, my friend and I have been absolutely infatuated with Corvettes. I bought mine not long ago almost 10 years after seeing the first one I could remember. I didn't find a yellow one, but it's special to me all the same.
I'm a new member and now an owner of an '02 Coupe. I can't resist chiming in too.
I’ve craved a Corvette since watching Route 66 back in the early ‘60’s. Todd & Buz, where are you?
At the time of my retirement I bought and did a ground up restoration on a ’37 Chevy, no hotrod, totally stock. A fine car, but the old craving for a Corvette came back when a neighbor bought a red C4 last fall. So, all winter I have been watching the cars for sale and telling myself that one of these should be in my garage. I put the ’37 on eBay last month and much to my surprise, it sold in less than one day for the full price that I was asking for. Flush with cash, I began my search again the next morning and immediately found an ’02 Coupe on this site that was just what I wanted. Low miles, all the options, several upgrades, a fair price, and most important TORCH RED.
I live in Denver and the car was just north of Tampa. No problem. I told my wife I was buying the car and flying down to get it and drive it home. She said “I’ll go too.” So off we went. The car turned out to be showroom perfect and the opportunity to drive it home (2,200 miles) was a lot of fun. I haven’t been home a week with it yet, but it is a blast. I wish I’d bought one sooner. They really are not all that expensive unless you want a much newer one. I look forward to driving this summer.
Parade Mode
The instrument panel brightness **** has an added
feature called parade mode to assist you in seeing
certain instrument panel controls if your headlamps are
on in the daylight. Turn the **** counterclockwise to
dim the instrument panel lights or clockwise to brighten
the lights. This will occur only with the parking lamps
or headlamps on.
I get comments and looks on my Z06 often. I credit that from the car being yellow!
About 3 weeks ago i needed to pull to the side of the road to make a phone call to my wife, within 30 seconds i had 7 kids from about 12-15 years old taking pictures with their phones and coming up to me asking all types of questions about it being a Z06 and that it's not a "regular" Corvette.
It's nice having a car that's literally a head turner, especially when i open it up, it's much louder at WOT with the headers, no cats and Ti's.
I think one of the coolest things about owning a Corvette is the reactions the car gets from the youngsters. The only other car that I have owned that comes even close to getting the same level of attention was a candy apple red 96 Cobra convertible.
I still remember the first time I saw a Corvette. My career as a certified car nut began at around 8. I built more model cars than I think any other kid on our street. My 80+ year young Mother still has all of them in a box in her basement.
It's good to know in these days of video games and computerized everything that there are still some kids out there who appreciate cars. Whenever a kid asks me about the car, I try to take the time to explain whatever it is he's asked about.
I was hooked in the 7th grade when my sister drove me in her 73 Red Stingray she had just bought. Today I have a 00 Coupe and I bet you can not guess what color I bought!
Wonderful that our dreams can come true, and we can pass the joy on to the next generations, I too have made a number of my wife's students happy with my C5.
It gives me great pleasure to see their faces beam with joy!!
How about a survey? How many years have you wanted a Corvette?
I have wanted one since I was about 12 .....46 years ago!
Got mine last year so it was a 45 year wait
My wife didn't start wanting one until she was about 16 when some guy let her drive his C2.
I think she would trade me and her first born child for a C2 now
My dad's friend had a '57 fuelie around 1959 and I bought my first car (a '59 vette in 1965). Went on to a '67 427 (cast heads), then to a '71 454. Finally broke down in 2006 and bought an 01 coupe and now have a 50th Anniversary Edition. I'd love a C1 again, but can't do the work any more, I will admit it's nice to jump in the car, turn the key and have it start right up.
