Side Scoop Molding Strip Missing

Side Scoop Molding Strip Missing
So I went and test drove a car the other day and I noticed that it was a little different than my old one. It was missing the molding that comes from the middle of the front side scoop and runs along the middle of the door. Does anyone know if this is something that came from the factory this way or can you just take them off somehow. Also what is your opinion? With or without? If you have taken them off how did you do it. I am about to by a 02 Z06 with them and am thinking of taking them off.

The BSM is a factory option. Not all C5s have it, and some of the ones that have it, the owners remove them.
