OK, I'm still fairly new to the Corvette scene here but I've noticed something that is starting to bug me. It seems that whenever I take the car out for a drive on a sunny windless day, and the car is spotless; or even put it back in the garage after washing it, the next day there is a layer of fine "dust" on it. Not enough to see from two feet away but if you put your finger on it and move it you clearly see a track. Is this something that has happened with all my other cars and haven't noticed because I'm not as... What's the word... Um, pickey... or is it something to do with the materials the car is made of that is like a magnet? I've wondered who would buy one of those car dusters out of the catalogue.. but now I now who does.. guys like me I guess..
Car cover and/or a California Duster will fix this
Well I get the same thing, I never thought of it that way. I live very close to an busy airport and there is a constant layer of JP-4 av fuel on most everything, the Corvette goes in the garage, but in the morning after a wash and a drive, I notice the dust you speak of.
When I was in college way back when, I had a course on something, but it questioned the environment and it was estimated that if all human life came to a halt, in one month the layer of dust that would settle back down to earth would be 6 inches deep ?
Trust me. A California Duster is necessary here. (Spoken by the owner of a black Corvette.)
I plan on taking a couple minutes to dust my Corvette before I back out of the garage every time I drive it. This happens no matter how clean it was when I parked it. Clean, drive, enjoy. Repeat as necessary.
Try Rejex polish/sealer.
Finish is very slick so dust doesn't stick but blows off much easier.
Works great on wheels too.
I use compressed air to "dust" car to prevent scratching.
Hmmm, seems that the Vette is made of plastic, maybe when it moves thru the air, that generates a small static electrical charge in the body. Might need a static strap, ????
Well. Mary does have a Birthday coming up. A his and hers dusters but I'm sure mine would get used more. The dust doesn't seem to bother her when she hops in and takes it out. Hummm?

Another Black car owner here. California Duster is a must have !!
Since it's a nonconductive material, and so are the tires, a lot of static does build up. If you drive a C5 and a Honda (for example) across an area where someone has mowed clippings on the road, take a look at how much grass sticks to the back of the Corvette. I have to use a duster on the back bumper of my 03 every single drive to get the dust and particles off. Well, I don't have to, but I do. It gets into all the light sockets, and the well where the rear plate is, too. And as you noticed, if there is any dust in the air, as when you sweep, it clings to the Corvette much more than a metal car.
Maybe it's because we all spend so much time polishing the surface that it builds up static electricty....much like balloon does after you rub it against your shirt
