Default C6 for C5

Just want to know if anyone here has gone from a C6 Z06 to a C5 Z06. I am considering it because I just love the C5 Z06 body style. My wife also likes it better then the C6. Any regrets. Guess I could pull a Jay Leno and put and LS7 in the C5.. Thanks.. Mike

I agree, I would have a C6Z if it was in my price range....
In my opinion that would be a downgrade...

I went back to a 2002 C5 a year after I sold my 2005 C6, but I would never go from a C6Z to any C5 style.

Your money, do what you want but if it were me - no way I'd go from a C6 Z06 to a C5 Z06.

You're out of your mind. The C5Z and the C6 Coupe (and maybe even the GS) are on level, but the C6Z... That'd be like trading an Aston Martin for a Mustang, and I say that as a very proud C5 owner.

C6 Z06 is a superior machine stock to stock comparison to a C5 Z06. Looks, the C5 wins, everywhere else the C6Z rules!

Can you build a C5Z C6Z killer? Ask Lew at LG Motorsports, he is the only person I know who tried,,,,,,,,,,

Seems to me that Mikes not too worried about the power decrease. He's more looking at it for both a design and comfort level.

I know everyone has thier own taste & likes.
But when I hear people say that the C5 looks better than a C6Z is just beyond me.

Unless the financial need arises to do so, I can't possibly see giving up a C6Z for a C5Z. You can't beat that bad azz 426 LS7.

If you think you would like it better I say go for it! BUT, I and I am sure others will require frequent mod update pics

I find the wide body C6's to look pretty incredible, and personally not a fan of the FRC style C5's, it looks like the roof was just cut off short...
If you get a Z06 3LZ with the leather wrapped interior it blows away the C5 interior, IMO.

But... everyone has their own opinion, like that guy who made an 05 into a stingray concept discussed on the forum recently...

Here is a quote from someone that went from C5Z to C6Z. I understand it's not the same direction but it does give insight into what the differences might be. You might want to PM him to get his opinion as well.

You are oversimplifying your comparison to only include initial costs. This is a bad mistake. The Z06 is a MUCH MUCH more expensive car to run and maintain then a standard C6. Like owning a boat or running a real race car. The cost of the initial equipment is usually 1/3rd (or less) of the overall running costs.

So you can't just add $10k to the cost of a base C6 and say it is an equal comparison. If that was the case, I would say why are you wasting your time even thinking of a C6 when for just another $10k you can have a Z06. But that is not the case.

I came from a C5Z to a C6Z and my running costs tripled. Honestly, I think the best solution is a C5Z T1 car with a cage, fire suppression, and fully race legal if you so choose to decide...MUCH better investment than a C6Z and probably just as fast. If I was starting from scratch and had enough money to buy a second track dedicated car, it would ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT, buy an already preppared T1 car. If you are not going to race in T1 you can throw in a nasty cam & heads and be running with well preppared C6Z's. I know one guy (Bob from ECS) that has a 427 in his C5 with Penske's and all the goodies and I can barely hold him off, come to think of it, he has passed me on a few occasions and even with all his mods, his car doesn't costs what mine did.

From a safety stand point alone, the T1 option makes the most sense and building one yourself when there are SOOO many good ones available for even UNDER your price range is just stupid.

I get weak in my knees lusting after a C6Z. But no way would I give up my ride for one, mine looks better and it's performance is on par....But it still isn't a C6Z, and that's the rub isn't it?

Trade down...no way keep the C6Z. Buy another C5 and mod what you don't like. You're not the first to want to go back to a C5, I have a good friend on the C6 side who wishes he kept his C5, but it is what it is. He has a great C6 and sometimes you just can't help but reminisce about the good ole days. "Love the one you're with"...... remember that song?

The C6 Z would definately outperform the C5 Z, easily... But there are some things I do like better with the C5 Z's though. I like the interiors better and I think they're more fun to drive, even though they're slower. Don't get me wrong, they're not as nice... But I do like the "race car" feel they offer.

It's your call though. Test drive one an see if you want to make the switch.

Where do you normally race?

Oh, no where?? You just enjoy driving it?? Hmm, well then, get the one YOU prefer owning and driving.

Seriously though, if you're not racing and looking for that extra lil bit that the C6Z offers, then who cares about the extra power?

I prefer the interior of the C5 better than the C6, which is why I passed on the C6Z I looked at. And for the savings, I could always do a cam swap or something to make up the power difference if I were that concerned about it. (which I'll be doing this summer lol)

I do however love the C6 Grand Sport and will most likely add that to the collection at some point.

And I do love the C5 but the C6 Z06 is a special car and I can't see anyone getting rid of it for a C5 Z06.
