Been there once in my 96. Hope to get there again this year in my 04. The museum has totally changed now. The wife and I had a great time. The plant tour is something really special to see. Have a great time!
I've done the factory tour twice - once last April and once last week. The tour last year was better - longer, more stops, more opportunities to talk to and question the line workers. This year's tour moved too fast and no chance to interact with the line workers. The difference? Last year's tour was a retiree (more knowledgeable, personally knows many of the workers, and is not in a hurry to get through) and this year's was a college student intern (knew the basics but not much backstory or details, focused on keeping to the schedule).
If you get a choice, go with the older guy (or gal) for your tour.
The girlfriend and I are going on the 25th to the C5/C6 Bash. Going a day earlier than usual, taking the factory tour on Thursday (her first time), maybe go to Mammoth Caves, hit the Musuem on friday for the introduction of the new models, reserved a spot on the corvette road trip through the hills on Saturday before the evening dinner bash/dance on Saturday night. Hope to have a nice safe trip. Anybody else going to the Bash next week?
I was up there a couple weeks ago. It was Friday so no factory tour, but it was Ok since I had done the tour about 6 months ago. Was kind of disappointed that the museum took out an entire room full of cars and turned it into a play area for little kids. The last room before you exit to the store had about 15 vettes in it last time...not anymore...
I was at the NCM back in 2002, but just as soon as I'm out of the hospital, I'm making the trip, Never had a plant tour and am dying to do this. Everyday that goes by I add something to my "Bucket List". Sure as hell hope I last long enough to see it through. I fell in love with the trip through West Virginia & Kentucky. Most beautiful trip I ever took was the Kentucky turnpike up and down the mountains during the fall. You only need the heater on in the mornings and you leave the windows down and smell the pristine clean smell of nature. Nothing like it. Just fantastic !
Pennsylvania is really beautiful, but West Virginia and Kentucky are just breath taking in it's early morning grandeur There is no substitute for gods gifts.
WARNING -many photos.... Back from my Trip to Bowling Green
Well I made it back from my trip… Ended up doing 3116 miles. Left Arlington TX and drove to Bowling Green KY with 2 other cars from our Club. Drove up Saturday (13 hours with stops), did the Corvette Museum Sunday and then took a scenic drive through the winding roads of KY. Monday we did the Factory tour (saw a 2013 Z06 convertible going down the line as a test build) and then drove down to Nashville TN. Spent the afternoon on music row and eating at Roosters (a Man vs Food spot). I then put my sweet wife on a plane back home and I took off to Anniston AL where I volunteered at the Citizen Marksmanship Program for 2 days. On the way I stopped in Lynchburg and visited Jack! It was a great experience at the CMP and I left with 2 M1 Garands (one from WW2 and the other from the Korean war). From there I headed to Tampa FL to visit with a buddy from the Air Force. Stayed the weekend and then started the long drive back to Texas. I stopped by Mobile AL at the USS Alabama where I took the shot below with the B-52.
Below are a few photos from the 10 day trip all with good gas mileage!!
