The general consensus here seems to be very unfavorable to the OEM GY Run Flats, but I've been wondering for a while how fair that is...
We need to consider that usually when we hear how fantastic the car is after replacing the OEMs, the new ones are replacing tires much older than 6 years and in many cases with very low mileage on them. These tires are hard as rocks, therefore they are noisy as hell, provide an uncomfortable ride and performance wise they just suck. Anything you use to replace them will be heaven in comparison!
IMHO, as mentioned above, the OEMs GY Run Flats are the best looking tires on a C5. Their profile is meatier, wider, powerful looking... It appropriately complements the car.
The 200-mile rating, also mentioned above, is something to consider too.

I would replace them. I have the original wheels that came on my '03 (spare set now as I am running an aftermarket set on the car) and they still have the OEM Goodyear runflats on them. Before I would ever remount the wheels/tires on the car and drive any distance I will put new tires on the wheels. Better safe than sorry.
Got to some what disagree with ya 8Vette. Im 64 and enjoy rubbing, shining, and admiring my cars as much as driving them. I didn t get a chance to talk to this Old guy at the Corvette show in the Smokeys last year but the guy next to him told me he bought that Vette new. Id bet money hes as happy pampering now as he was poppin that clutch when he got it,lol.[IMG][/IMG]
I guess I should have stated above that I just bought my 02 last fall. But 8VETT7 you are right it is a shame. The guy who owned it told me not to do like him and drive it. But I also agree with you Dixiecrat, I'm 62 I and enjoy polishing on them too.
I bought my AE with 173 miles on it in 2007. I finally replaced the OEM tires last fall with about 25,000 miles on them. I bought Continental Extreme DW tires (non runflat) for about $950. I should have done it the first summer I drove the car-------it is now a pleasure to drive due to the reduced noise and reduced harshness over tar strips and the like.
I did buy a small compressor and some tire plugs that I now carry in the small storage compartments.

I always laugh when I see this kind of stuff. You think your going to patch a rear tire on the road (especially if the hole is close the inside of the tire)? I'll stay with the runflats if I have no spare.
1967 coupe, 427/435hp, 3.36 rear, marlboro marron, saddle interior, side exhausts, PS and PB. My first new car and the best $4,550 I ever spent---it's helped me avoid spending lots of money on "shrinks" over the years !!
2003 AE 6M convertible bought it new from the dealer in January 2007 with 173 miles on it. It's my "retirement" ride
My friend bought a new 67 ,427 coupe and paid $7200 for it , did yours have tires on it ?

Your friend is either stretching things a lot or was really taken to the cleaners. I don't think you could get a '67 Vette to even sticker at 7200 (unless he bought an L88). Probably not then either.
Mine stickered at about $5500 and was only missing a couple of options.
Edit: I checked the option prices for a 67 Vette and it is possible to get the sticker to $7200, but you have to check every option you can. Some options weren't available if other options were checked off.
Your friend still should have been able to get at least a $1,000 (probably more) knocked off the list price as I did.

Yup--------if I have too. Been there and done that. Some of us are more capable than others.
That is, if just pumping the tire back up won't get me to a tire store. The car does have tire pressure warning and if the leak isn't real fast, one can probably get to a tire store without even pumping up the tire.

We were young, he could have been blowing hot air, lol. I did watch him run a GTO for $50, lot of money then. The Vette had to start in third gear, lol. I never seen so much smoke, lol. that GTO jumped him 10-12 car lengths out of the hole but when that Vette finally hooked up it was bye bye Goat, lol. I never saw black marks that long to this day, lol.
I also bought my 03 last year with 10K on it. It had Michelin Pilot Sports on it however it seemed to ride extremely rough. At 13K I put on new Michelon Pilot Sports. What a difference. I would definitely buy new tires. You will be amazed.
