Corvette c5 questions
- what is the city mileage you guys are getting(wondering because highway is higher than what is stated by Chevy)?
- what is the mileage, one set of tires last, and what is the avg cost of a shop to put new tires in)
-what is the cost of maintanance for the c5
-I know a few people have gotten the c5 at 16 and 17 what is the insurance cost
-do you guys think the c5 price will go lower in a year or two.(want to know because I plan on getting the car then)
The release of the C7 will knock the C6 and C5 down
Tires will depend on brand and your driving habits...If you are a "green light gunner" then you will get the "Vette wear" pretty quick on the back tires...a set is going to get you at $1,000, though there are less expensive alternatives.
Maintenance depends on you as well...an oil change will either be the cost of oil/filter if you do it yourself or $80+ at a shop...The cost of parts will not be so bad because you can get them off of supporting vendors here at discounted rates...The labor however will not come cheap if you do not do it yourself.

6spd will do about 25-6 overall (city and hiway) because of low overdrive 6th gear
Just put on a set of Michelin all season run flats - less than $1,400 with balancing and alignment----non run flats are much cheaper.
average cost of maintanance is subject to miles driven
check with an insurance company (with collision it will be high)

Mileage on mine is 26 combined city/highway. I drive 20 miles one way to work and it's half and half city'highway.
Never too soon to start preparing for that car. Good to see you trying to learn and prepare. Just keep reading all you can here and you will learn a lot.
- what is the city mileage you guys are getting(wondering because highway is higher than what is stated by Chevy)? Six speed or auto? How do you drive? What is the road surface?
- what is the mileage, one set of tires last, and what is the avg cost of a shop to put new tires in) The same questions as above, could be 10k miles or 40k miles.
-what is the cost of maintanance for the c5? How many miles is on the car and again, how do you drive?
-I know a few people have gotten the c5 at 16 and 17 what is the insurance cost? If someone can buy a Corvette at 16 or 17, how much of an issue is the cost of insurance?
-do you guys think the c5 price will go lower in a year or two.(want to know because I plan on getting the car then)
I apologize if it seems like I'm giving you a hard time, it's just that your questions are hard to answer with a general statement. Just follow the forum and you will have your answers by the time you are ready to buy.
OBD
18 -19MPG in normal city driving.
Cost goes down every winter come back up a bit next spriing, C-7 will affect the future pricing.
Do your own oil changes, and maintenance is pretty cheap. 6 speeds are a bit more to maintain (clutch etc)
If you're a fanantic, pricing of everything is more...

So for the first question, I will probably go for the auto, but will go for the six speed if I get a good deal on it. So for the second question, I am not going to be a green light gunner, especially knowing the power this car has is. A car with 50000 miles or less would fit into the budget. As for buying the car at 16 or 17, insurance is something that should be factored in because of the age. Just to clarify, I am getting the car because we don't have a second car and only my dad drives(to work...)

Tires for the C5 can be had for as little as $650 and as high as $1500+ - just depends on what brand you go with. I have an A4 and get about 18-19 mpg in town and around 26-27 on the highway. The mileage you might get will depend on traffic conditions, your driving habits, etc. Tire life will depend on a lot of things - some have reported 30K+ miles out of a set, others have been lucky to get 15K out of a set.
