Default Winking Left Headlight

About eight months ago I replaced a damaged headlight gear with a new bronze gear. It seemed fine at the time. Now, the same headlight is flapping up and down several times after turning off the headlights. Also, the top of the headlight motor where the manual adjustment is seems very loose. When I got the car inspected recently, the technician said I needed to replace the actuator and module. They wanted a huge amount of money to do this repair. Since I have already tackled the gear myself, I thought I could handle this. By actuator and module, does he mean simply replacing the whole motor assembly or is there 2 separate parts? I've looked at aftermarket headlight repair parts and can"t find a "module". Thanks.

It could be a problem with the stops but the first thing to check is did you fit the insulators correctly?

Number: 00-08-42-002
Subject: Left Headlamp Door Does Not Stay Closed (Shim Headlamp Door Motor/Actuator and Replace Insulators)
Model Year: 2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition
Some customers may comment that the left front headlamp door does not remain closed after the headlamps are turned off. Others may comment
that the left headlamp door closes when the headlamps are turned off, but then reopens. In either case, the right headlamp door operates properly.

Correction
Important
The following information applies to the left front headlamp door motor/actuator only. It does not apply to and should not be performed on the right front headlamp door motor/actuator.

Install one washer (2) between the left headlamp door motor/actuator (1) and the mounting bracket (3) at each of the three attaching bolt locations. Also replace the
insulator (4) on each of the two mounting bracket travel stop tabs (5) as shown. For information on headlamp motor/actuator removal, see the Headlamp Motor/Actuator
Replacement procedure in the Lighting sub-section of Body & Accessories in the appropriate Service Manual.

Parts Information
Part Number Description Qty Per Vehicle
11505463 Washer 3
16524060 Insulator 2

Default Module

Does anybody know if the module the tech was talking about is the black square mounted to the inner fender behind the headlight motor? It seems to have wiring connecting to the headlight motor. Thanks.

I just replaced mine today with a motor from what seems like a newer Vetter. It's not an exact fit, but it works.

When I disassembled the old unit. This is what I found. The gear itself is in pretty good condition, but the rubber/plastic insert was shredded. What may have caused this?

It used to be a rubber bumper inside the gear. The metal part fit into it. See it in the pics below...

*these pics are of the brass replacement gear but the OEM is the same except for it's plastic
