I just got back my steering wheel from RedlineGoods. They are now offering a DIY wheel wrap and also the service where they do the recovering for you. Not wanting that "wheel skin" laced-up look, I opted to have them do the work. I also asked for a slightly thicker rim with thumbrests. The finished product came out perfectly for my taste. The rim fills my grip just right, is "firmly spongy" and the leather quality is very nice. This makes the stock wheel look like it's made of plastic.
I can't exactly say how much this service will cost as I was the first to send Redline a C5 wheel for prototyping, and they made me one helluva deal. I did have to send my wheel (actually bought a second one) to Poland which cost $51 from NH, FWIW.
I apologize for these crappy cell phone pix as they don't do this wheel justice. The quality is right on par with the other offerings from RedlineGoods as I also have their shifter and e-brake boots, e-brake handle and console cover. Drop Jack or Maciek a PM and they can expound upon your options, including multi-color and multi-material wraps. And, you can expect the price to be around half, if not less, than what they're getting from some other vendors.
Very nice. When I had mine done by VE I also had some extra padding put in, I agree it gives the wheel a better feel. Like yourself I picked up a used wheel and sent it to them. Nice to see Redline offering this service.
Nice and the form of your new wheel is very similar to that of my dd Mini Cooper S. I had VE do my wife's C5 steering wheel and I did the same - bought a second spare and sent it to them. I had them add some padding to make it thicker and firmer and it came out awesome. I also had the airbag covered in leather with the logo stitched into it.
Very nice, Patches. I wish that I had an extra airbag laying around when I sent my wheel off to RedlineGoods so they could do a cover, too. Even with the stock airbag though, the new wheel matches better than what my poor picture indicates.
Nice looking wheel
In response to the other pics... Why would you cover the airbag with leather? If your going to render it non-functional why not just change out the entire wheel?

The airbag is still completely functional. The stiching is designed to break away easily should the airbag deploy.
