Default Need help iginition column lock

2002 z06
i had a new wiper switch put in b.c mine went crazy and after it was done the message iginition column lock came up and it wont let you drive it faster than 1mph. It starts and runs fine expect for this issue..
I was told it needs to be reprogrammed?? Is that right?
Any help would be great its getting towed to a chevy dealer this week. And if i can save the tow money and the reprogram money that would be awesome.
Thanks alot

Sounds like another victim of this C5 curse. I take it your column unlocks and the car shuts off when you try to move? Mine did the same thing, basically the BCM does not receive the signal the column has locked and shuts the car off as a safety measure. I bypassed the Column Lock relay with an LMC5 module plugged directly into my BCM. In the interim you can try and fast idle your car for a minute or two, around 2K RPMS. Sounds crazy but this is likely caused by voltage issue and the fast idle trick may get you going for now until you can resolve the issue.

Talk to Richard at Compliance Parts, he will take care of you

So it's not a program issue it's an add on part? I'm so confused??!! Is this all bc the column came apart for the wiper switch?

Look there. Happened to me when i first bought the car. Another method is turn the key off turn the wheel violently left and right it should release. Worked for me. Then i ordered the bypass modd( search by pass mod tons results) Not a problem since.

The cause is a low voltage problem. If the battery is old replace it. And if the car sits for long periods of time also get a battery tender to help keep the battery charged.

not likely related.. As 02EBzEE mentioned... Has the car sat for ahwile, old battery? This is usually a voltage issue, bad battery/low voltage or ground issues.

It's the battery - happened to me last year, bought a new one problem solved. These computers consume power from the battery even when not in use.

Default Battery

I agree with changing the battery. Happen to me last year. Read upon the forum found the optima red top in my C-5 was showing good and had it tested at auto-zone checked good. After reading a thread about the battery RC mine was 90 for the red top optima. I believe the RC for this vette is suppose to be 110 RC-Residule Charge. Bought Die Hard barttety for mine no problems since
