Hello all,
I recently went to plug my Garmin into the cigarette lighter below the ash tray on my 2002 coupe, and it didn't supply any power at all to the device. I checked the fuses associated with the lighter and they are fine, so I know it isn't a fuse issue. My next hunch is that the lighter may have disconnected from the power source in the back, especially since I know that the lighter worked prior to having my MGW shifter installed...which perhaps jarred the cable loose in the installation process.
Can anyone provide me some tips for checking this connection without removing the entire center console??? It looks like I can get to it from behind the ash tray, but I wanted to ask here before I started just taking screws out with no direction.

Go onto the Vette Essentials web site and look under shift boot installation - it will tell you what you need to do to get to the back of the cig lighter assembly. Basically you will have to loosen the center console and then take the radio bezel loose enough to check and see if the connector is still attached to the back of the lighter assembly.

I've dreaded it in other cars I have owned, but in the C5 the console is a breeze to take out. Its like 4 bolts and three screws, ten minutes (with a beer in one hand).
(I dont even drink beer, but you get the idea :-))
Yep, it's very easy to take it out to get back there and check the connection. As mentioned, vette essentials has the best directions on their site. That cable for the cigarette lighter is short and will sometimes come off.
if the connection is there, then maybe the cigarette lighter isn't grounded well. if it was working before and just suddenly stopped though then it should be the fuse or the connector as you mentioned.
Before you remove the console, recheck the fuse. As far as I know, the only fuse associated with the cigarette lighter is the #7 mini-fuse in the passenger side footwell. You might try replacing it even if there's no apparent problem, then recheck the lighter. There should be spare fuses in the engine compartment fuse box.
