Most of the aftermarket air intakes are not a true CAI system. The Vararan is one however. I don't have one, and that is mainly due to the fact that I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida and when it rains here in the summer time many of the streets will flood in the heavy down pours and because of the low inlets for the Vararam it will suck in the water. Besides, mine is not a daily driver, and is not a track car, so I see no reason for one.. Many people claim that it will give you a good boost in your HP, but that is another topic.
You'll get many opinions based on what other went with...
True CAI are Vararam and Callaway Honker from research I did - I chose Vararam, this design just makes sense (and price compared to Honker). That being said many negative comments on the quality and difficult install. Honker the shroud needs to be cut, so alittle more involved there as well.
As for rain and vararam, many opinions here too - what I've seen is common sense is don't drive through puddles that are over the inlets and you'll be fine.
Add some headers and a tune to the CAI for a good kick...

I have a Vararam on my C5. its the best at providing cold air into your motor. It doesnt provide the best dyno numbers, but the car will love it on the street at WOT. www.TampaTuning.com

Vararam if you want every possible hp. I run one myself on my C5. Install isn't too bad it just takes a bit of time. They're out of stock for 2-3 weeks unfortunately.
