Chrome Wheel Woes
I know exactly what you speak of, we have it here at work and I have used it before. Something to think about.
Now, To the guys who keep insisting I can't sand off or paint over chrome.
I will agree with both of you guys on both statements. However, The barrels are only rough machined. Many, many grooves are in the aluminum.
The flapper wheel is to remove / smooth out all of the pitted areas. I will also wire wheel the inside of the barrel to further roughen up the surface. I'm almost certain the paint will adhere as it will have something to grab onto.
I just got these wheels a little over a year ago. I'm not about to trash them. When I get around to doing them I will photo doc. the process.
I liked the look of the 5 spoke chrome C6 wheels and found a mint set of 07 takeoffs for 650 shipped. I'm hoping the quality of the OE wheels is better.

I've had success in the past with painting chrome bumpers. I sandblasted them then epoxy primer and paint. The sand doesn't take the chrome off but gives it a texture like fine sandpaper. No problem with peeling. That would work with your situation but the faces would have to be carefully protected with shielding tape. I use duct tape. If you rough up the surface with your flapper it should work OK. Epoxy adheres to darn near anything....even glass.
