I know it's early to be concerned with such things but how might the Toyo Proxes T1R fare in cooler weather. I won't be using them in the snow or anything but it does get cold and rainy here in Western Oregon sometimes. Temps in the mid 30's to low 40's are common, should I avoid using them in the rain when it's that cold? The 03 Vert I just got has a near new set on it. The old one has all seasons on it and I never had any trouble.
I'd hate to have to just park it all winter, I drive it daily but don't deliberately set out in the rain, I have a '96 Ranger for that. It doesn't bother me to get caught in the rain though.
Will it be safe provided I keep in mind the weather? My housing situation and financed won't allow for a spare set of winter wheels so that's out.
I see no problem with those in your area. I live in the Tampa Bay area and we get the same temps in the winter here with rain, and no one goes around with different tires in the winter then they do in the summer. those tires that say summer tires are am sure directed to the people in the great white north that have to deal with heavy snow.
With proper prudence, you will be just fine. BUT, I will tell you that there is very little traction available below about 50* with summer tires. I am running some Firestones that are summer, and on the rare occasion I get the AE out ion the winter, it is like on ice.
Just be careful at the beginning of your trip and all will be good.
Thanks all
I assume from the info provided a little warm up time and no getting squirrelly in the curves in the cooler temperatures. I can live with that, at 63 I've seen a fair bit of rain in my driving career so a little rain only slows me down a little
My main concern was if they would be dangerously slippery, looks like I'm good to go. Don't have any idea how many miles are on them, I got it off a dealers lot so they've been touched up black.
Some manufacturers of summer high performance tires state that the tires are not to be used at temps of 40 or lower. I live in western Washington, drive my Corvettes year round, and have all season radials on both. I have read too many tales of people with the summer tires losing control in the winter and crashing their cars. It is not worth it to me to drive on summer tires for the little extra traction when it is warm out.
I have the toyo's on my 00 coupe, and although i store it during the New England winters here, I have driven in temps just above freezing. No problems with traction, but as always use care when driving in colder temps. I do know that the Vararam just loves the colder air temps, and THIS can cause poor traction. Ken

Just take it easy when the weather gets cold and you should be fine. I run a set of the Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs on mine and I have no problems getting around in the winter.
