Sad C5 moment
So I went to my buddys mechanic shop to use his lift to work on my car and I found half a customers C5's drivetrain on the floor.
Blew his rear in half and broke his half shafts which resulted in also damaging his tranny and torque tube which is almost past 6 g's in repair so far. Cracked down the middle! unbelievable and the owner is a senior so I know he wasn't beating on it.

You say he was a senior and didn't abuse it, I know a lot of seniors that will put a car through some good paces, Stuff like that don't happen easy, Some one was very hard on the car.

Happened to me with my 6spd. Had the car 3 weeks.
What I think happened was shaft snapped which caused the rear end case to fracture. My torque tube wasnt damaged.
Shaft in mine looks JUST like that one in the way its broken.

I don't think you intended any offense to Seniors, so there's none taken; However, many of my non-gearhead friends could assure you that I am fully capable of "beating" on a car.
I would be interested to see the area where he parks his car, especially the rear of his car. There is a tremendous amount of heat generated in the differential and if it had been running low on lube, it was only a toss up between the trans and rear as to which went first. Or as has already been stated, someone else may have been driving/abusing his car. Maybe his girlfriend?

Someone was beating on that car - something like that usually doesn't happen in ordinary driving.

The shaft that broke and came out of mine showed some blackening on a couple of the "lobes"? for which bearings were on.
My uneducated analysis was that it may have ran low on fluid and the shaft got hot. Coupled with the prev owner probobly doggin it. Caused it to snap.

LOL,,,not ALL seniors are ready for the home
!! I've had quite a few .00# reaction times and have managed a 13.08/110.24 in an almost stock 6speed(Blackwing and Corsas). On some low friction surfaces sometimes I can't resist the temptation to hang it out going around a corner!! I don't actually abuse it,,but I don't drive it like a little old lady either,,and I'm in my 60s!!

Don't be to easy on the older crowd I will attest to one senior person who will be taking her c5 to the Vette Magic Drags this weekend and she beats the hell out of her C5. Two years ago she left the line spun a 360 and still had the nerve to finish the 1320
