I had no choice when leaving a campground but to pass over the one way tire spikes that collapse as you run them over. The problem is that when they sprung back up, they hit all over the place under the car including rocker panels. I was wondering if there is the grit tape like they use on metal steps, that I can cut, nicely trim, and stick to the rocker panels to cover the painted area that faces the road and take abuse from rocks etc as opposed to messing up the panels and paint. Anyone know what it's called and if it comes in rolls? It's gritty like sandpaper and black.
I got rolls of it at Home Depot. I used it for traction on my Kwiklift.
I don't think this would work very well on the rocker panels. It is like a sandpaper roll. I wouldn't want the exterior of my car to be a sandpaper finish.
It is also a paper backing that can be torn easily. I put a hydraulic jack base on it to lift the car and it tore and damaged the paper.
Take a look at the rolls and see if this is really what you want.

It would not be visible unless on a rack or you were under the side of the car. I want it on the surface parallel to the ground.
Yes, tough non-skid is what I want. Thanks. Boat shop is a good start.
EDIT: Found this site and it comes in coarse or fine grit CLEAR. I think I have my answer.
Or these high density plastic rocker panel guards for $69 instead of $225. I have the plastic ones and they have saved my rockers several times. If you check the forum you will find people bemoaning the fact that GM no longer stocks replacement rocker panels so protect yours.

Both the plastic and the metal are a solution to saving them, but neither does what I am looking to do. As I said, I went of those tire spikes and they are spring loaded. The sprung back against the bottom of the car on the painted area. Covering the paint is what I am looking to do. These are solutions for high centering the car. Good products though and I may do the plastic in addition to the adhesive no-skid. Banks and parking garages have them to and I frequent both.
Thanks
