Well, vacation started officially Saturday. I'm a HS math teacher/basketball coach (next year will be my 20th year) and I'm off until late August. In February we purchased our first ever Corvette; 2004 Machine Silver auto coupe with 42,000 miles. I washed it Friday after our last workday of the year and removed the VERY DIM climate control unit to ship to digitalguy_1 for repair. Also removed the computer and mailed to ECS for a tune. This week I'm going to change the oil/filter, install a Z06 Ti exhaust, Vararam, 160 thermostat, then clay bar it and polish/wax with Meguiar's products. I'm guessing this mod thing is contagious and after I hit the track again with my new MT DRs I'll only want to go quicker. Already investigating 3.42s and a Yank SS3200. Here are some pictures:
Congrats and good luck with the pending mods. Please post some pics on the thermostat change as I also have a 2004 and will be tackling that mod shortly. Looking for for some help with that per my other thread...
You definitely are on the right track - Excellent choice of mods!
The 3.42's and YANK 3200 will be awesome - it is the same combo I have!
If you want a chart showing the differences in RPM and MPH in the different gear ratios let me know and I'll post it later!
Thanks,MAtt
Do you regret not going with 3.73s? I'm still debating that. It's not an all-out drag car and I don't want to kill MPG since it's my DD. Currently I average about 25mpg with a mixture of some city driving and mostly highway going to work. I just want it to be a little more "zippy" and be able to track it to the track a couple times a year yet still have respectable mileage.
School teacher with a Corvette? You teachers make too much money......
Have you heard that one before? I have, more than once. I've got 33 years in as an Industial Ed teacher.
Congrats on the nice 04. The mod bug is going to get to you.
Not to hijack the thread here, but a little observation of mine. I am 56 years old and teaching was a late-life career change for me. Just finished my third year of teaching and I really enjoy it!! I had thought about teaching starting thirty or more years ago but never acted on it as people are always commenting on how lousy teachers are paid. Wish I had pulled the trigger on it many years ago as you get wayyy more out of it than a paycheck!!
Enjoy your summer and your mods, but be sure to leave enough time for driving it!!

"NO" way whatsoever do I regret going to 3.73's and especially with the A4 -
I would regret going too 3.73's, with an A4 it is just not a good combo at all!
With 3.42's you will get what you desire out of your Vette and "NOT" loose MPG and your sanity either!
3.42's will make it plenty "ZIPPY" as you stated and maybe take you by surprise too! It is an awesome combo for sure especially coupled with the YANK 3200
You will get you respectable mileage and be able to take it to the track and know you have the right combo!

You're right, you don't teach for the money. There are many more perks being a teacher.
