When I had my '00, I had a local shop cut me some vinyl stripes using commercial grade vinyl. Stripes were on the car for well over 4 years and never had a problem with them. Cost, including install, was $20.
Many of the major vendors have them (Ecklers, Mid-America) and another good source is VetteStripes.com if you want to go with pre-made stripes.

What shop did you have them done at? There is a small printing shop where I live, but if it's not cookie cutter design, they won't even try to make it.
